t Education Happenings at B.S.P.S. The BSPS Science-Fiction Club by Colin Fenton Brandon Luxton and Justin Pyatt Are you in for the thrill of competition! competition! Trckkies, Trekkcrs, Star Wars fans and sci-fi freaks; you'll find them all in the BSPS Sci-Fi Club. Every Day 3 we can have competitions, competitions, games, or watch movies. The club has been going strong since it started a few weeks ago with about 15 members, and it's still growing. : Members of the Sci-Fi club get to participate in a variety of activities that include sci-fi contests, group discussions, discussions, computer games, and reading. reading. Colin states, "One of the things I like best about the club is the ranking system. Each member receives a rank starting as an Ensign and going through to Commodore. Senior Girls' Volleyball by Julie Elliott The grade 8 girls' volleyball team showed an outstanding effort at the tournament in Bowmanville High School, Several players from the team were away on a school trip, but with some great substitution from Melissa Madden and Tammy Parkins the team managed to keep their lead. They won 4 of the 6 games played. The first set, a thriller against Dr. Hawkins, was won with a 2-0 record. The second set with The Pines was a split with 1 game going to each team. The third set ended the same, with 1 game going to M.J. Hobbs and 1 win to BSP. Congratulations to the team who really pulled together. The following week, on Monday, November 8th, the girls kept up their outstanding play. This was the fourth of four mini-toumaments. The girls played well, winning the majority of their games, sailing through the night with flying colours. Remembering, by Sara Roberts and Kim Ostrander The students gathered in The Learning Resource Centre Thursday morning, November 11th to focus their thoughts on the men and women who have risked their lives to keep Canada a peaceful nation. The Grade 8 choir sang "Oh God Our Help In Ages Past" and "Let There Be Peace On Earth" - songs that reminded the students of past days of war and of the need for peace. Wreaths were placed at the front of the room by students students involved in various clubs and organizations such as Cadets, Pathfinders, Pathfinders, and Pioneer Girls. Several Grade 8 students read passages giving giving honour to soldiers, sailors, and pilots. pilots. The Poem, "In Flanders Fields" again reminded us of the many graves in Europe of the fallen men and women. We'd like to thank Mrs. Cameron and Mr. Veldhuis for organizing organizing this heart warming ceremony. Senior Boys' Volleyball by Jennifer Somerscales and Nancy Seto On October 5th, 1993, 20 boys came to try out for the Bowmanville Senior Boys' volleyball team. After five tryouts of practising volleyball skills and going over game situations, 10 boys were selected to compete as a team. The team consists of Jason Lange, Chris Pot, Brett Pakosta, Fraser Fraser McArthur, Andrew Wraith, Clayton Clayton Kohn, Greg Kocndenman, Jeff Ross, Steve Dao and Ryan Wood. Their coaches, Dave Ito and Hugh Walters say, "The boys have done very well to date. They have shown great improvement, improvement, which has been seen in their performance." The boys have played four rounds of Volleyball at Bowmanville High School against The Pines, Dr. Hawkins Hawkins and M.J. Hobbs. After 24 games, the senior boys' team are in first place. Way to Go! We all wish them the best. " Stratford Trip by Kelly Ogilvie On November 2nd, 1993, classes 82 and 85 went to Stratford to see " William Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Midsummer Night's Dream." We left the : school at 9:00 a.m., arriving in Stratford Stratford for lunch at 11:30. We then went to visit the park around the beautiful theatre, where we had a chance to relax, relax, look at the scenery, and browse in the Gift Shop. About 15 minutes before the play started, students gathered outside the theatre, in time to go in and be seated . Our seats were good - the first three rows in the balcony. The play was very humorous and had lots of music. It was performed so any group would enjoy it. During the intermission, the theatre was buzzing with anticipation of what would happen next. The second half was as exciting as the first! When the play was over, we boarded the bus for home, arriving shortly after 8:00 p.m. As a lollow-up, some of the students students in Mrs. Seency's class wrote a letter to the Production Staff at the theatre, asking how some of the special special effects worked.
