Orono area was represented in the Sunday Peterborough Santa Claus parade, parade, when Allan Downes and his now famous team of horses and "surrey "surrey with the fringe on top" in the beautiful 1 1/2 hr, long parade. Mrs. Inez Harris attended the first birthday of her twin great-grandsons, on Saturday, in Oshawa, sons of Dean and Anita Febbrini. Horticultural Annual A very early annual meeting of Orono Horticulture this year 1993, held December 2, 1993, in Main hall of Orono United Church. Other years always held in January. Attendance down somewhat from other years, but a very interested crowd enjoyed a delicious pot-luck dinner. President Shelley Etmanskie welcomed welcomed everyone and called on Reverend Reverend Russell for grace. Head table guests include Mrs. Diane Hamre, Mayor of Clarington, Kathleen Petrie, Dist. Director of District 17, President Shelley, Treasurer Treasurer Adele McGill, Reverend and Mrs. Russell. We are sorry to report our secretary Flo Sharpe in still a patient patient in Toronto hospital. Delightful entertainment was provided provided by "Base Line Square Dancers" Dancers" who just recently performed at the Royal Winter Fair, Toronto. Really Really talented young children, under direction direction of Roily Bowman, who called off for the dancers, and music by James and Doreen Lowery. This group is performing in Port Hope Santa Claus parade this Saturday. Mayor Hamre brought greetings from Clarington and congratulated the Horticulture Society on their town beautification programmes. The town thanks them ànd is pleased to donate grants to help out these worthwhile projects. Kathleen Petrie, our District Director, District 17, brought greetings greetings and encouraged our society to give out environmental awards to local local people who help keep our areas clean. Newsletters are in'process of com-, piling information on all societies in District #17. Each society to organize a membership drive for spring, to rebuild rebuild our societies for 1994. Remember Remember our quilt blocks for planned quilt. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved by I. Challice, sec Loma Atkins. Cor. Mostert gave encouraging beautification report and thanked all for their help through the year. Adele McGill gave a good financial financial report and thanked our 2 new auditors, auditors, Dcrckc and Dorothy Barnett. She reported a very busy year, with 3 fund-raising events, attending Civic Garden Centre, and O.H.A. Convention. Convention. Our "Flower Basket" sale a real success. Our Orono Society received the "first ever" society award from District # 17, for our work on Cenotaph. Cenotaph. Doreen Lowery, show chairman, reported on excellent speakers and four shows throughout the year, with 512 exhibits, and 40 entries in window-box window-box competitions, and congratulated congratulated our president Shelley on a successful successful year. Flowers, compliments of our own "Apple Blossom Shop" and plenty of complimentary remarks about the delicious delicious dinner, and much enjoyed by everyone. Confirmation Class: The minister will be offering a young people's Confirmation Class for any young persons of 14+. The Class will meet every other Friday at 4 p.m., from January 7th until Pentecost, May 20th. We shall cover worship, the scriptures, Jesus Christ, the Church, Christian life style. The Focus Women's Group is holding a vigil concerning violence against women on Monday, December December 6,7 p.m., Bowmanville Arts Centre, Centre, 143 Simpson Avenue. The vigil will be outdoors for 1/2 hour followed followed by an indoor reception. Our Christmas Concerns Committee Committee sponsored films Sunday evening and was well attended, especially by the young folks. Christmas Carol singing with Iris Lambier at piano, and Mrs. Annie Fisher leading, was much enjoyed. Bob Bolton welcomed everyone and Reverend Russell closed the evening with prayer.
