Well, they're not all basking in the southern climes. In fact many of our feathered friends are spending these frigid months right here in Durham Durham Region. For an introduction to these winter residents, join CLOCA staff for a tour of the bird feeder trail in the Lynde Shores Conservation Area. (From Hwy. #12, take Victoria Street west 2.5 kin to the parking lot on the south side of the road.) Beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sunday, January 9, 1994, you'll have a FREE opportunity to learn about the birds' survival techniques as well as pick up some of the secrets of attracting attracting wildlife to your backyard. Staff will discuss bird feed, feeders and locations, locations, and lead a tour with opportunities opportunities to see different species of birds. CLOCA staff will provide bird seed so everyone will have a chance to feed the chickadees. Oshawa Hospital Expands Facilities Oshawa General Hospital announced announced November 19th, the expansion expansion of its mammography facilities to a larger, redesigned space within the hospital. Taking part in its celebration were Gord Mills, MPP Durham East, Drummond White, MPP Durham Centre, and Allan Pilkey, MPP Oshawa. Also in attendance were a number of other local and provincial dignitaries. The newly renovated facility, located located on the lower ground area of the hospital, is 1,200 square feet in size and equipped with four mammography mammography machines designed to handle a caseload of over 12,000 examinations a year. Currently, Oshawa General provides provides a wide range of cancer treatment treatment services, with the exception of radiation therapy. In order to provide a continuum of cancer services, Oshawa General intends to seek approval approval for the provision of radiation therapy. Prior to tire move, the mammography mammography clinic at Oshawa General was housed in an area that was only 330 square feet. This area was capable of accomodating two mammography machines which handled a caseload of approximately 6,000 examinations a year. Also, the inadequacy of this space often caused an already anxious anxious situation to become even more stressful for patients. The current expansion not only includes includes the addition of two new mammography mammography machines, but also space for a private comfortable area to help put patients at ease and a video screening area for patients to " view films on breast self-examination. The relocation to a larger facility and the addition of two machines has allowed the hospital to decrease the waiting times for examinations from a waiting period of six to eight weeks to approximately one and half to two weeks. The expansion and renovation of this service was made possible through the hospital's Setting the Pace Capital Campaign and the Keeping the Pace Annual Fund. The renovation expenses, which amounted amounted $112,000, were financed through Setting the Pace funds, while the almost almost $200,000 cost to purchase the two new mammography machines was funded through the Keeping the Pace Annual Fund. Contributions to this year's Keeping Keeping the Pace Annual Fund have been earmarked- for the enhancement of cancer care services and to date, Keeping the Pace has received over $400,000 in donations.
