i Resident Looks for Help To Prevent Locked Land After waiting patiently and quietly, quietly, relying and hoping on the trust and faith of the township I live in, I feel that I have no other route to take at this time but to tell my story and hope that someone else can help me or answer my questions. Three years ago my husband and I moved to Courticc to escape the hustle hustle and bustle of city life in Toronto and establish a home for ourselves. The town seemed to be more than inviting inviting and offered some solitude from our business travel and time in the city. The property we purchased is comprised of what could be two separate separate lots. At the time of purchase we were under the assumption that we could, without much difficulty, sever the lots - living in our home on one of the lots and selling the other lot or building another home on it. Ever since we began to pursue these options options the township has done nothing but try to dissuade us by making them as difficult as possible. Instead of encouraging growth and success for its residents the town merely attempted, attempted, and so far succeeded, in destroying destroying that hope. The two .options we had thought we had were, selling to another prospective prospective buyer or severing and building building ourselves on the additional lot. Sometime in the not too distant future future a shopping mall will be going in which will be surrounding our vacant lot as well as some other owners' property. The gentleman who will be constnicting the mall, although we have never met personally, is a respected respected business man and has been more than polite to my husband when discussing our problem. We have offered offered our property to him to build on at a very low and reasonable price, which I am certain he will verify, However, he has stated that at this time it would not be economically feasible to develop that section of land. The mall will be constructed as scheduled, leaving seven parcels of land including ours, "Land Locked". Heritage Week Moved Heritage Week 1994 is being moved from the end of May to the first of July. In minutes of the Bowmanvillc Museum Board, member Shcr Lee- toozc reported a new committee is looking at July 1, 2, and 3 as being the new time for the celebration recognizing recognizing the history of Clarington. The Bowmanvillc Museum will be holding an open house prior to the Heritage Week events. The Crystal Ice Bucket Bouquet MSOS'S | «MSI $4000 and up Fresh flowers in gifts wrapped with holiday spirit. There will be no access to the land and construction construction will become less and less economically feasible to a developer as well as unattractive to purchase. My impression was that "land locking" locking" was something a township was to prevent in order to protect private owners. Was I wrong? In the second option,, that my husband husband and I build a second home on the additional lot, again the town has crushed our hopes of doing this as well. After having several members of the community approach the town on our behalf, those who we felt might have a bit more clout than I or my husband, we still have not been able to sever or build. My husband and I went so far as to pay for sewer hook up on our present home in order order to be- able to sever the back property property as soon as we had town approval to build. However, the town decided that if we were going to be granted approval we would have to contribute thousands of dollars toward the payment payment of having a road put in around what would be the second home we would build. We arc just a young couple struggling to pay for one mortgage and the feasibility of expending expending thousands of dollars to the town for such is totally unrealistic. So, we have not yet paid the approximately approximately $5,000 to hook up to sewers since we would only have to pay several several times that amount again in order to pay even more money to build a second home to sell so that we may sever our properly. My question to everyone who reads this is why would a town that should welcome newcomers and protect protect and serve its past residents only make efforts of accomplishment to those people more and more difficult if not impossible? My question to the Ontario Municipal Board is in serving serving the Ontario people, is "land locking" locking" something that you would allow? allow? And finally, my question to all of you who have, and I know our case is not the only of its kind, similar similar problems progressing and trying to better your lives and those of your families, what can we do to stop this and how can we all help each other? I am a quiet person and I hate to voice my sorrows or hardships with others who do not necessarily want or need to be involved, but what else can I do? Sincerely, Tracy A. This article is about 2 dogs who live on Baldwin Street, Newcastle who are allowed to run free. On Thursday, December 16/93, these 2 dogs were in our front yard at 7:50 a.m., they were also seen by a witness. These dogs were literally mauling a poor little defenseless, dc- clawcd cat. I heard the cat scream and ran out the front door, where the brown dog was on our lawn with my cat in its mouth. I screamed "Let go of my cat." The dog threw it to the ground and I ran to pick up my cat. I immediately rushed her to the vet where he immediately prepared her for surgery. Her stomach was tom wide open and muscles and intestines were hanging out. On Friday, December 17/93 at 7:45. a.m. we received the call that •, our dear little pet had passed away. The people who own these dogs stated at first they would pay the vet bill, but since have retracted. As we sit and mourn our pet we also wonder where arc the moral ob- ligatioas and how is their conscience. I am sure many people arc aware of the leash law but do not use it. So please, people use your leash or chain up your pets so that tills incident incident will not happen to your pet that you love as much as we loved ours. She died a very painful death and somehow I hope these people have a conscience. Thank you Mrs. Barbara Bannister 246 Church St. Newcastle, Ontario LIB 1C5. ?>"■-- -- If you are new to Bowmanville...
