Four of the girls on this team are from the Bowmanvillc girls' team. Paula Drinkle, Sherry Foster, Laura Somcrscales and goalie Heather Watson will accompany the team on the trip that will last until January 2. The girls pass along thanks to local sponsors Bob's Towing, STS Transportation Services, and Newcastle Golf and Country Club for making the trip possible. MIIMIMIK EAGLES GAME -- It has been quite a 1993 for the Bowmanvillc Eagles. In the spring, they captured the Central League championship by sweeping Little Britain in the finals, and so far in the current season, they look poised for a repeat. After starting off slowly, Bowmanvillc went undefeated in 14 of their last 15 games. Heading into last night's game with Port Perry, their current record in league play is a sparkling 14-5-1. Their next home game won't be until the New Year, January 2 to be exact, when they host Bobcaygeon. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Also, for the remainder of the home schedule, any child 12 and under that is accompanied by an adult will be admitted to the games for free. •■■••••■•■•a ATHLETES OF THE YEAR -- As mentioned last week, the end of another year means that we will once again be honouring the top male and female athletes of the year in The Statesman's annual recognition award. The finalists will appear in next Wednesday's edition, with the winners ' being announced sometime in early January. ■ TASTY TREATS -- Thanks are passed along to the folks from the Skylight Donut bowling league, who dropped a box of chocolates off at our office, expressing their appreciation for publishing their scores each week in the paper. We tried to be selfish and keep the chocolates strictly in the grasp of the sport department, but the mood of the festive season took over, and the treats were shared among the entire staff. Needless to say, everyone appreciated the gesture. Thank you. MAPLE LEAFS CHRISTMAS CARD -- The timing couldn't have been more appropriate. As we are typing this into the. computer on Monday afternoon, a Christmas card from Oshawa lawyer Terry Kelly arrived. The card depicts a Toronto Maple Leafs stocking hung by a fireplace on the front. Inside the card was a full color picture of the entire team, complete with the autographs of each player. In the middle of the second row stands Terry, who is on the Board of Directors of the hockey club. From past discussions with Terry, we know that he is an avid reader of The Statesman. We wish him the best of the holiday season. Checkers Variety Novice Toros Split Pair The Major Novice Toros split a pair of York-Sirncoe league games in the past week.
