The Independent, Canadian Statesman Weekender, Bowmanville, Saturday, January 8,1994 7 Minor Novices Outscore Opposition The Minor Novice Toros can be found around town with giant smiles on their faces, as they enjoyed the most rewarding tournament of the year. This was their third 'AA* championship this year, and they hold a perfect record. It was most gratifying to win their own tournament, but they won all three games to qualify for die 'A' final by winning every period in every game, thus giving them a perfect perfect 15 points. En route to the final, the baby Dennis Pizzeria Minor Novice goaltender, Justin Vandebelt, accepted accepted the MVP award from presenter Warren Nicholishen during the Checkers Variety Christmas Classic hockey tournament. The Toros Toros won the 'A' Championship in their division, allowing only four goals in four games. bulls outscored Oshawa LNHL Canadians Canadians 17-0, Ajax Knights 5-1, and Newmarket Redmen 8-1. With a record of 30 goals for and two goals against, the Toros were hoping to shed a giant monkey from their backs as they were facing arch-rival Pickering. The Panthers were anxious to make amends for Bowmanville winning winning their tournament. With the tournament victory fresh in their minds, this game was shaping up to be a real barn-burner. The Toros were first to score and they started the third period leading 2-0. Scoring one more early in the third, it looked like they were in command, but Pickering battled back, scoring two quick goals. That was all they could muster, and the Toros potted two more for a 5-2 win. Beating first place Pickering, and winning a beautiful trophy for capturing capturing the Christmas Classic made for a very merry Christmas indeed. The Dennis Pizzeria Toros would like to thank the BMHA and Checkers Checkers Variety for an enjoyable three days. Congratulations to the baby bulls for their successful season. Keep up the good work. Happy New Year to everyone who makes hockey hockey fun. Loss for Rec. Club by Kim Gadd An exhausted Darlington Rec Club team was defeated 1-0 by the Orono Midgets Tuesday evening. The scoreboard was empty until the third period, when Orono's Tyler Bates popped in the only goal of the game. Frank VanOverloop and Jeff Scholl assisted on the play.
