The 10th Annual Newcastle Village Village Minor Hockey Christmas Tournament Tournament was held from December 27-30. , Out-of-town centres who entered throughout the tournament were Manvers (Tyke 'A' Champs), Grafton, Grafton, Bewdley, Bowmanville Beaver Lumber, Newcastle #2 Ed van Realty Realty (Tyke 'C' Champs), Newcastle #1 Golf Course ('C' Runner-up). , Four BowmanviUe teams in the Novice division took the 'A' and ,'B' titles. Other teams in Novice were Newcastle, Oakville and Oro- no. In the Atom division, there were teams from Bowmanville, Port Hope, Cobourg, Grafton, and Newcastle Newcastle Gruffies ('A* Champs). In the Peewee division, there were teams from Port Perry, Port Hope, Peterborough St. Paul's, Peterborough Peterborough St. Anne's ('B' Champs), Fenelon Falls ('A' Champs), Newcastle ('C' runner- up). The Newcastle Gruffies Atoms fought hard in triple overtime to win the 'A' Championship title. All players received lunch at the arena, which was donated by Harvey's. MVP awards were given out to each team who entered a division final. final. These awards were donated by the Newcastle Optimists. Carter's Bakery Wins in Trenton Bowmanvile's Carter's Bakery brought home the A Championship from the Trenton Silver Puck Novice Novice House League Tournament on Dec. 27,28. Carter's first game, against the Belleville firefighters, was tied 2-2 late in the third period. Jason Buck- ley took a pass from Stuart King, with only six seconds left on the clock, and scored the game-winning goal. Carter's other goals were by Derek McGrath from Andrew Curran Curran and Kevin Dion, and an unassisted unassisted goal by Stuart King. Game two, saw Carter's come from behind to defeat St. Andrew's from Oshawa 5-3. Trailing 3-2 with 3 minutes remaining, Derek McGrath scored a shorthanded, goal to even the score.
