Grove Bennett was the best man on the ice for the locals and, in fact, was the winner of the most valuable player award for the tourney. Being selected from 120 players is an honour. ******* Crystal Dairy's Steve Bums and his mates walloped McNulty Sports, 11-6, in town league hockey. Bums dented the cords for a giant, six-goal night, running his season's total to 29. 20 YEARS AGO - Bowmanvillé Beer's Red Eagles battled Sutton Rangers to a 4-4 tie. Scoring for the Eagles were Doug Wood (2), Rory Gibbs, and captain Bmce Osbourne. Steve Rowe and John Schnapp turned in brilliant goaltending efforts. 10 YEARS AGO - Sylvia Ruegger has been named Durham Strider of the year by the track club. Sylvia's accomplishments during 1983 included several 10 km road race titles, the Ontario and Canadian Cross Country titles, and a silver medal as a member of the Canadian team at the World 10 km Road Race Championships at San Diego.
