Anderson and J. Johnston. The boys played three great games of hockey to secure their place in the 'A' Championship against Clearwater. In the championship championship game, Clearwater came out strong, leading the game 2-0 going into the second period. But, Bowmanville Bowmanville played hard and managed to tie the game at two, going into the third period with goals scored by S. Stephenson and S. Pollard. S. Stephenson's Stephenson's second goal of the game in sudden-death overtime gave the Toros a 3-2 win over Clearwater and the 'A' Championship. The final, arid most exciting game of the four-day tournament, also made history. It marked the first time ever in a championship game that no penalties were called. Referee Kevin McAlpine let the teams decide how the game was going going to be played out. The result was an exciting and fast-moving hockey game. Way to go, boys! Thanks to manager Don Luxton and coaches Bob Luxton and Jeremy Jeremy Laird for a fun weekend for both the boys and the fans. The Toros start their first round of playoffs on Saturday, January 29, at 8:00 p.m. at the Darlington Sports Centre. Come on out and support our team. Easy Victory for T-Mac Insulation Due to bad weather conditions, a short-handed D&B Hawks team from Orono proved to be no match of the T-Mac Insulation Oldtimers on Sunday, January 23. Mike Hewer scored four times to lead T-Mac, Phil Solomon had three, John Allen two and Bruce Meadows two. John Vestcrs and Wayne Bradley added single markers. markers. On the coldest weekend of the year, the Bowmanville Minor Peewee Toros travelled to Newmarket for the hottest tournament -- the International Silver Stick North American Finals. In their first match against Oakville, Oakville, the Toros outplayed and outshot their competitors, but ran into strong goaltending. It was not until the second second period that Ross, assisted by Sawyer, Sawyer, managed to put the puck past the Oakville goalie. Ten seconds later, Sinclair from Reid put the Toros ahead 2-0. That was all Bowmanville needed as they went on to win 4-1. Insurance Insurance markers were provided by Kift and Reid, with assists from Harper Harper (2), Sawyer and Sinclair. Markham were the Toros' next match. While both, these teams have hard-fought battles during the regular season, Bowmanville was not going to bo denied. With strong goaltending from Plowright, the Toros waltzed by Markham 3-1. Offence was provided by Harper, Ross and Sinclair, with assists assists to Kearns and Reid (2). With the win over Markham, Bowmanville Bowmanville had earned a spot in the semi-finals. However, their next game against Humber Valley from the MTHL would determine the Divisional Divisional winner. The Toros came out quickly with a goal by McKnight on a nice feed from Sinclair 22 seconds after the puck had been dropped. Humber Valley responded responded 30 seconds later to tie it all up. After the initial fluny, the game settled down and provided end-to-end action. Humber was an excellent passing passing team against the hard-hitting Toros, Toros, Humber took a 2-1 lead early in the second period, but it did not last for long as the Toros scored three goals in the remaining two minutes of the second period. Goals from Reid, Graham and McKnight, with assists from Kearns (2), Marsh and Sinclair gave the Bowmanville team a 4-2 lead. In the third period, the Toros had a number of penalties, which provided Humber the openings they were looking looking for to tie the game up at 44. With good goaltending from Lawrence and strong defensive work by Sawyer, Reid, Harper, and Baraball, the game ended in a tie. Based on the overall goals for and against, Bowmanville were the divisional winners. Then, it was on to the semi-finals, where the roadblock to the finals came from Orillia. Bowmanville had seen Orillia three times this year and, ■ as a team, they are a fast-skating, hard-hitting unit. Bowmanville started slowly and it showed on the scoreboard. The Toros were down 3-0 after the first period. In the second period, the Toros started playing disciplined hockey and it payed off with a goal by Sinclair from Harper. The second period demon strated the boys could outplay Orillia for a full period. In the third period, Orillia struck early, scoring on their opportunities to take a 5-1 lead. But Bowmanville hung in there and potted two goals by Graham and McKnight, with assists to Ross, Kift and Harper, to reduce the deficit to 5-3. In the last five minutes of the game, with Orillia on their heels, Bowmanville had a number of excellent excellent scoring opportunities, but were denied. It was a tough loss for Bowmanville, Bowmanville, but it did show that the players are capable of beating Orillia with a sustained effort; Bowmanville can be proud that Harrison Fuels were Divisional winners winners and made it to the semi-fmals of the International Silver Stick North American Finals. Well done, coaching staff and players! Tournament Championship For BRHL Remax Bantams On Saturday, January 23, the Remax Remax Bantams ventured east to Grafton for a tournament. The first game went into a sudden- death overtime against Oshawa. Down to a three-on-three situation, Remax prevailed 4-3 when Bert Lelievre slapped it home. In game two, Remax came out flying. flying. Up against one of the host Grafton Grafton teams, Remax scored 33 seconds into the game, Led by Jamie Adams with two goals and an assist, and the help of excellent defensive play from Mark Bragg, Dan Roe and Karl Weiner, Weiner, Remax never looked back, lighting up the scoreboard seven times and allowing allowing only one goal. It was on to the 'A' finals. The final game was. Remax versus Baltimore. Remax struck fast as Paul Marchant hit the twine one minute into the game. Assists' on the goal came from Bert Eelietre and Brent Strand. At 6:26. of the first, Baltimore tied it up. With one minute left in the first, Bert Lelievre blasted one by the goalie, goalie, lifting Remax back into the lead. At 7:52 in the second period, Devin Devin Jordan tucked one in, assisted by Brent Strand and Jamie Adams. The game remained very tight-checking and physical. At 7:05 of the third period, Brent Strand put the icing on the cake, assisted assisted by Jeff Finney. Goaltenders Tyler Brady and Jeff Orme shut the doors on Baltimore. Special praise should go to James Metcalf, who, although he was injured and unable to finish the game, refused to leave the bench and his teammates. The girls placed third overall, and are eager to make a return trip. When the returned home, they went from balmy temperatures of 70° Fahrenheit, to -15° Celsius.
