NO FOOTBALL TEAM -- Received some rather discouraging news last week from Gord Carey. The bantam football team that he had hoped to start up in Clarington in time for this season has been cancelled due to a lack of funding. That's rather unfortunate for Gord, who was extremely excited with the idea of bringing football to this area. Bowmanville scored early, late, and in-between on their way to a 16- 2 romp over Bobcaygeon to take a onc-game-to-zero lead in this best- of-seven series. With all of the numbers from goals and assists being called out over the public address system throughout the evening, anyone who brought their bingo chips along would have had little difficulty filling filling their card. Game two of the series swings into Bobcaygeon on Friday night, while game three will be back at the Recreation Complex on Sunday night, with the usual starting time of 7:30 p.m. To put the opener into perspective, perspective, Bowmanville scored more goals in this single game than Bobcaygeon Bobcaygeon did in six previous outings this year against the Eagles. Bowmanville 16 Bobcaygeon 2 : scored, but rather who the scorer was. Jeff Flintoff, breaking in from his defence position, beat Bobcaygeon goaltender Chad VanDam for his first goal of the year. It was a long time coming for Flintoff, who tallied eight times last year. Brad Robinson led the goal- scoring parade with three goals, while Dave Real, Gary Adams, Pete Young and Kirby Moore added two apiece. Todd Cannings, Craig Hilton, Dave Stockton and Jeff Murphy had one each. The evening started off on a good note for Bowmanville, and only got better as the night progressed. Over those six regular season games, Bowmanville outscored : Bobcaygeon by a 47-12 margin. But there was a glimmer of hope for Bobcaygeon, who only one week ago, stretched Bowmanville to the final period before losing. A pair of power play goals by Bowmanville, Bowmanville, the last with only 46 seconds left in the game, lifted them to a 4-3 victory. But any sense of a close score was dispelled by the end of the first period in last night's game. Bowmanville dominated, scoring 57 seconds into the game, and taking taking a 7-1 lead by the end of the first period. They extended it to 13-1 after after 40 minutes of play. Bowmanville has now won their past 12 games in a row on home ice. The only real highlight to speak of the entire night came on Bow- manville's sixteenth and final goal of the evening. Not so much because because of the way in which it was Bobcaygeon goaltenders had a hard enough time trying to stop , , pucks, let alone players, during last night's Jr. C playoff game at the ■, tean \ w ? s ^ ort P. en 7> Recreation Complex.
