8 The Independent, Canadian Statesman Weekender, Bowmanville, Saturday, February 12,1994 Mr. Sub Peewees Advance to 'A' Final in Bewdley On Saturday, February 5, the Mr. Sub Peewees travelled to Bewdley for their annual tournament. The first game found the Sub boys up against the Baltimore #3 team. This was a non-contact tournament, so the Sub team was forced to change their style of play. The Sub boys lit up the scoreboard early when Lucas Leskiw let a shot go that the goalie could not handle, allowing allowing Ted Eeuwes to take a shot on net. James Beck finished the play off when he deposited the puck into the net. The Subs' second goal was scored by Niko Anastassikis, with Mike McCrary assisting. The third Sub goal was scored by Chris Peldiak on a setup setup from Matt Meadows. James then notched the fourth Sub goal on a nice passing play from Niko and Ted. The Baltimore team then scored when the Sub team gave up on their backchecking. The final Sub goal was scored when Derek Welch was knocked down in front of the Baltimore Baltimore net. Derek dug the puck out to James who one-timed the puck into the net. Baltimore scored late in the game to make the final Mr. Sub 5, Baltimore Baltimore 2. The next game found Mr. Sub up against Baltimore #2. The Sub boys got on the board when Chris passed the puck through the Baltimore crease to Luke Thompson, Thompson, who one-timed it into the net. Chris picked off a Baltimore pass and blasted the puck into the net for Subs' second goal. The third Sub goal was scored when Niko passed back to Luca^ on the point, who let a blast go that Chris tipped into the Baltimore net. Baltimore Baltimore then scored into the upper corner corner of the Sub net. Chris got this goal back on a setup from Derek. The fifth Sub goal was a heads-up passing play, starting with Shawn Watson up to Matt, who passed over to James, who made no mistake as he shot the puck into the net. The final Sub goal was scored again from good passing as Matt notched the goal with James and Luke assisting. The 'A' Championship game found Sub up against the Baltimore #1 team. Both of these teams are in first place in their league. The Sub coach had watched Baltimore blow out Port Hope earlier, so they knew that this would be a hard game. The Sub boys lit up the scoreboard early in the second period as Matt passed to James, who deposited the puck into the upper comer of the Baltimore Baltimore net. The Sub team kept the pressure on Baltimore, but couldn't score, allowing Baltimore to tie the score up with only 30 seconds to go in the third period. The game ended in a tie. This meant that there would be a shootout, with each team going with three shooters. The Sub coach made a goalie change, going with Andrew Pitt. The Sub team scored twice, while Baltimore Baltimore scored once, giving Sub a 3-2 win. This game showed that the Sub boys have the heart to win the hard ones. Matt Meadows was picked as the game MVP for Mr. Sub. The Mr. Sub team played an exhibition exhibition game against Checkers on January January 22. Both teams were missing their Select players, so the Sub boys added Adam Powell, Chris Mann and Adam MacDonald from the Dykstra's team. The Sub boys skated to an 8-0 win. The point-getters for Sub were Niko (4g), Adam MacDonald (lg, la), Chris Mann (2g), Matt (lg, la), David Dustan (la), Brent Logan (la). David McLinton recorded the shutout in the Sub net. On January 30, the Sub boys faced off against Computer Learning in a BHRL league game. The Sub boys skated to an easy 11-0 victory. Neither team could score in the first period, but Chris put Sub on the board at the midpoint midpoint of the second period, with Brent and Lucas picking up assists. The Checkers team tied up the score with Sub playing a man short. The Sub team regained the lead on a power play of their own as James dug the puck out to Matt, who passed back to Lucas at the point, who let a blast go that beat a screened Checkers goalie. Sub then notched another pow er play goal, this time Shawn passed up to Matt, who beat the Checkers defence defence before sliding the puck past the goalie and into the net. The Subs' final goal was scored when Mike dug the puck out of the comer and passed to Chris, who was positioned in front of the Checkers net. Chris beat the goalie, putting the puck into the upper comer. The final score would read Sub 4, Checkers 1. Bradley Schultz was helped off the ice, but we know he will be back and ready to give 100%. The Mr. Sub team must now get ready for the BREL Peewee tournament on February February 12. f Bowmanville United Soccer Club GENERAL MEETING at Bowmanville Rec.
