At the meeting Rybka-Becker and Yorgason were elected as delegate/ alternate to the NDP's Women's Committee 15th Delegated Conference to be held in Ottawa this spring The conference will focus on health and social services, the economy, the environment and equity. News from Blackstock by Joyce Kelly The Blackstock Junior Curling League finished their first season on February 1 with a pizza party and a draw to the button contest. Winners of the contest were David Crouler and Meghan Kyte. Tom and Tracy Martin have moved into their new home on Church Street West. The Fred Ford family have moved into their new home on Greensboro. At the Blackstock United Church five new members were received by transfer on Sunday morning service. Carol Merton and Jason Merton from the Lakefield United Church, Mary Shepherd and Bill Shepherd from the Anglican Church and Michael Sloan from Cambridge St. United Church, Lindsay. Reverend David Shearman preached an excellent sermon on Transfiguration Sunday theme. The Senior Choir sang a tremendous rendition rendition of "No Man Is An Island." The service concluded with the Sacrament Sacrament of Communion. The preliminary announcement was made for the Talent Auction for April 29. On Sunday at noon the Blackstock U.C.W. entertained the choir, their spouses and family for a delicious branch at the church. A social time was enjoyed. On Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill VanCamp along with Mr. and Mrs. Laveme Gibson of Millbrook visited Mr. and Mrs. Roy Foster of Port Hope. They were pleased to find Roy recovering well following surgery. The three men had all served on County Council at the same time. On Saturday evening Cecil and Marie Gibson, Ross and Alma Duff attended the 50th wedding anniversary anniversary celebration in honor of their cousin cousin Wilfred and Maretta (Graham) Gillis in Millbrook. On Tuesday, February 8 the afternoon afternoon unit of the Blackstock U.C.W. met at the church with 11 members present. The lunch and roll call followed followed a Valentine theme using the' word Heart. Business included the following announcements: as the meeting scheduled for January 17 had to be cancelled because of bad weather, watch for a new date sometime sometime in April. The annual Presbyteri- al will will be held February 22 at St. Paul's Church, Bowmanville with the theme Hurting, Healing, Hope. The general meeting on February,;, 23 at 7:30 p.m. will feature a special speaker dealing with "The Power of the Attorney." 1 World Day of Prayçys pit March 1 4 at Nestleton Catholic Church. The program was video dealing with poverty among women entitled, "A fine line" in which three women told of their straggle to live in pover- ty and raise a family. Holds Meeting to Discuss Business During February Nineteen ladies met at Ebenezer on Tuesday, February 8, at 1:30 p.m. A weather warning had been issued for that day, so we were pleased at the attendance. Vice-President Pat Smith opened the meeting with a 'Thought for the day.' It was a reminder to give extra consideration to our birds during this severe winter weather. We then repeated repeated the U.C.W. Purpose. Greta Down read the 'Mission Minute' which was an account of action action taken by the Hillsburgh United Church to empower their young people people to be responsible for planning their own program, with the help of the minister and the leaders. They were assisted by a grant from the 'Mission and Service' fund of the church. Eileen Down was in charge; of the remainder of the meeting. Kay' Mackic read from the Chapter of Ruth the account of Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi, using the King James Version. With Eileen at the piano, piano, we sang 'We're marching to Zion.' A group of ladies in costume then acted out the story of Ruth, with Eileen Eileen as Narrator. The Biblical persons persons involved were represented as follows: Ruth - Pat Smith, Naomi - Mildred Muir, Orpah - Joan Pickell, A neighbour - Muriel Metcalf, Reapers Reapers - Gwen Muir and Jean McKnight - and Boaz - Margaret Down.
