A guide to fine dining and entertainment The Cocktail Hour Draws Closer The Bowmanville Drama Workshop Workshop is eagerly counting the days until until opening night for "The Cocktail Hour." With little more than two weeks left, there are always numerous numerous projects still to complete. This weekend the BDW starts building the set for the play. As with most productions productions there is invariably a challenge, or two for the set construction crew to deal with. In last fall's "Appointment "Appointment With Death," the challenge was to create a reasonably realistic rocky terrain with a rose-coloured mountain for the backdrop. For this play the challenge is getting getting a life-like yet easily portable Grand piano. As a symbol of the families life-style, the piano is an important important part of the set. Another interesting interesting aspect of the set is the floor. The family in "The Cocktail Hour" is quite well-off, and as such probably would have a hardwood floor. This alone will require several hours of work. But as is always the case with the BDW, they are up to the challenge. challenge. As an appreciation to their many local followers, the BDW has a special special treat for them. Each night of the performances there will be a draw for a pair of free tickets to the BDW's fall production. For all those who attend attend the production, there will be a grand prize of a dinner for two compliments compliments of The Hying Dutchman Hotel, as well as tickets to the fall play. In "The Cocktail Hour" a middle- aged son returns home to ask his 75- year-old father's permission to produce produce the play he has written about the family. Afraid of what he may have written, his family begins to reveal their hidden fears and deep-seated resentments. resentments. Although the play is fundamentally fundamentally serious and thought- provoking, it is also fast-moving and very funny - a good evening's entertainment! entertainment! "The Cocktail Hour" can be seen at the BHS Theatre on March 3, 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. students.
