Broken Main Disrupts Bowmanville Water Supply Repair crews required hip waders as they searched for valves to close off the leak. Extremely cold temperatures and deep frost have been blamed for breakages. " It has been a very bad year. The frost penetration is deep. It's about four to five feet," Mr. Motum said. Broken water mains caused by the recent cold snap were blamed for two recent disruptions in the Bowmanville water supply. An official with the Durham Region Region public works department said some areas of town experienced low water pressure or no water at all on Monday morning, February 14. Then, on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, the Bowmanville Bowmanville water supply was disrupted. Ron Motum, supervisor of Technical Technical support with the Durham Region, Region, said the cause was traced to breaks in a 12-inch water main on Lake Drive in Bowmanville's industrial industrial park. The water main breaks occurred at hydrants about 300 feet apart on two separate days.
