10 The Independent, Canadian Statesman Weekender, Bowmanville, Saturday, February 26,1994 A guide to fine dining and entertainment. The Cocktail Hour Opens March 5th The Cocktail Hour is coming to BHS Theatre. Bowmanville Drama Workshop's latest production is A.R. - Gurney's The Cocktail Hour. Set in the 1970's, it is the story of John (Randy Alldread) who has come home to ask his father's permission to produce a play he has written about the family. His father, Bradley (John Ames- bury) is shocked and afraid of what his son may have written. Bradley is a private man who does not want his family or their way of life held up for public inspection. Bradley's wife, Ann (Elizabeth Prower) believes the place for any revelations is in a "good long book". Nina (Pat Marjerrison) is John's sister sister and is upset about her "minor role" in the play. Throughout the play the family's fears and resentments are brought to light. Although the play is quite serious, serious, there is a great deal of humour amid the conflict. A fast-moving and funny piece of theatre it is definitely a play worth seeing. The Workshop will be having a free draw for all who attend performances performances of The Cocktail Hour. The prizes are tickets to their fall production production and tickets to the local high schools plays. A grand prize will be a pair of tickets and a dinner for two at the Flying Dutchman.
