For the first time since the 1989- 90 season, the Bowmanville Eagles and Port Perry MoJacks will face each other for the league championship. championship. Game one of their best-of-seven series will be played at the Bowmanville Bowmanville Recreation ^ Complex on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. Port Perry advanced to this year's final after eliminating Little Britain in the fifth game of their semi-final series on Thursday night. They also only needed five games to dispose of Lakefield in the quarter-finals. Bowmanville have been idle since February 9 when they eliminated eliminated Bobcaygeon in four relatively easy games. On the basis of their first place finish during the regular season, Bowmanville elected to take a bye in the semi-finals. They finished the season with 45 points, while Port Perry claimed second spot with 38 points. In six league encounters between the two teams this year, Bowmanville Bowmanville won five games, including all three in Port Perry . Hospital From page one comparison was under construction to this extent during the time of the review. As a result of its review, the Joint Policy Planning Committee might recommend a cutback in funding to iicâpftâï^ which, during the survey period, had high caseload costs. In total, the cutbacks from the Ministry of Health could amount to $21 million and the possible reductions reductions would be levied against the 22 hospitals having higher costs. Bowmanville's share of the reductions reductions has been estimated at $435,000. And, while that may not seem like a large portion of Ontario's Ontario's $18 billion health care budget, Mr. Elston notes that it would have a major impact on the $16 million budget at Memorial Hospital Bowmanville. Bowmanville. "It is significant," Mr. Elston Elston said. The hospital president noted that there has been no indication yet if the Ministry of Health will proceed with cutbacks to any hospitals having having high caseload costs. However, there would be an appeal appeal process for those hospitals hit by cutbacks. Given the fact that Bowmanville's costs were affected by construction, Mr. Elston believes that if an appeal were necessary, it would be favorably received. "We think everything is on our side to be successful in an appeal," he said. Mr. Elston also suggested that the process used by the provincial committee of Ministry of Health staff and representatives of the Ontario Ontario Hospital Association may be flawed. "It is strictly a mathematical for- umula," he said. "There is no corelation corelation to quality of care, efficiency or productivity." He adds that the formula for deciding deciding which hospitals have high case load costs does not take into account account other services a hospital may be offering its community. For example, Memorial Hospital has extensive services for out patients patients and same-day surgery. Such facilities can increase costs and make it difficult to accurately compare compare a hospital offering a full range of services to one which docs not Ontario Motor Sales brings you value! ■ 4 Door • Air Conditioning • Automatic • AM/FM Stereo Cassette ♦ Anti-lock Brake System • Power Door Locks.
