18 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, March 9,1994 Ronno and Friends Perform at Hampton School A comical cast of puppets joined singer Ronno last Saturday at Hampton Jr. Public School for the last in a series of cushion concerts for kids. Seen here with his fuzzy chum, Lambo, Ronno (Ron Hiller) brings his audience to their feet and gets them singing and clapping along to lyrics about self-respect, good manners, and caring for the environment. Education Durham Christian High School Includes Port Perry Contingent by Sarah Ridley One of the things that makes Durham Durham so unique is the fact that our students students come from all over the region: Cobourg, Lindsay, Peterborough, Oshawa, Whitby, and Port Perry, just to name a few. Last week, I focused on Lindsay. This week, I'd like to look at Port Perry. About fifteen students attending DCHS are from the Port Perry area. They all come to school every morning morning in a van driven by one of Durham's Durham's teachers, Mr. Guetter. Mr. Guetter lives in Seagrave, just north of Port Perry, where he has lived for six years. He teaches Math, Computer Computer Science, Physics, and Business at DCHS. Hq says his favorite of these is Computer Science. "I like it because because it's always something new." Unfortunately, this can also be the most frustrating part, because you're not sure what you'll be teaching from one year to the next. Mr. Guetter can easily be described described as a family man. He has two sons, one bom only this past October, and he loves to spend time with them. He loves to talk about them too, as his students are well aware of! Mr. Guetter says he likes teaching at Durham because it offers a valid alternative alternative to public schools. He also likes the small student body and the fact that there is more accountability between the school and the home. Another "Port Perry type", as Mr. Guetter likes to call them, is Jess Burghgracf, a gr. 10 student. Jess lives on the outskirts of Port Perry. She is involved in the yearbook committee committee and is on the executive for the Outdoors Club. Jess' favourite subjects subjects are Art Studio and Phys. Ed. because because they're different from the rest of her subjects. Jess loves to listen to music, do art, go skiing, or talk about wolves, her favorite animal. Jess has two sisters, one of whom, i a The War Amps Melissa, also goes to Durham, and a brother. Her parents own an auto body shop and a car wash, where Jess works almost every Saturday. Her younger brother and sister attend Scugog Christian School in Port Perry. Next year, her sister Rachel will be attending DCHS. Next week: still more profiles of the various chapters "represented at Durham plus an update on happenings happenings at Durham Christian High. The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Newcastle Roman Catholic Separate School Board MARCH 11/94-SOCIALCONTRACT DAY March 11, 1994 is a Social Contract Unpaid Leave Day for Separate School Board Staff.
