Mr. and Mrs. Dean Friedlander, Toronto, were weekend visitors with his mother Raye Friedlander. On Tuesday evening Marjorie and Murray Paterson attended the performance performance of Annie at Leslie MacFarlane School, Whitby. Granddaughters Sarah Sarah Milton, Lesle and Jennifer de Jongc were in the cast. On Thursday night the Patersons enjoyed the Music Night at R.S. McLaughlin School, Oshawa. He gave to each member of the congregation congregation a booklet entitled The Nail as a guide to daily Lenten devotions. It was Marianne Leslie's fourteenth birthday and the congregation sang a special version of Happy Birthday asking God's blessing for her. . Next Sunday, Holy Communion will be at eight and Morning Prayer at eleven. St. Francis of Assisi Parish February The following new member was welcomed into our parish family through the Sacrament of Baptism during the month of February: Peter Mark Robinson. The CWL members met for their general meeting on Thursday evening February 10th. Following this a mini- retreat, sponsored by the CWL for all women of the parish, was organized and facilitated by Sue Hendricks the CWL Spiritual Convenor. Her theme for the retreat was "Forgiving Eyes". The Rite of Election for catechumens catechumens Paul White and Sherry Kozak was held on February 19th during the 7:00 p.m. Eucharistic Celebration. On Ash Wednesday, the formal start of the Lenten Season, ashes were distributed at the 7:00 p.m. Eucharistic Eucharistic Celebration. For the Newcastle village the service was held at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Roman Catholic Church with the local churches participating. The most fitting introduction to this service was, 'Pray not for Arab or Jew, for Palestinian or Israeli, Syrian Syrian or Lebanese, Muslim or Christian, Christian, Orthodox or Catholic, but pray rather for yourselves, that you may not divide them in your prayers, but keep them all together in your hearts.' Bowmanville Hosts UCW Presbyterial Meeting About 150 women attended the annual meeting of Oshawa Presbyterial Presbyterial UCW which was held recently at St. Paul's United Church, Bowmanville. Bowmanville. 31 locals were represented. Shelley Wright, president, presided until the new executive was installed by Betty Turcott in a very moving installation. installation. Bessie Vaneyk is now president for two years, with Eileen Burgess as first vice president and Donna Johnston installed as second vice president. Margaret Down of Ebenezer UCW introduced Alexandra Caver- ley-Lowery. She is a liturgical dancer, dancer, a counsellor, an associate professor professor of Dance at York University. As an Anglican theologian she combines theology and movement of the body to bring her story to us. Movement is the language of her story-telling. There was not a sound nor a cough as Alexandra presented her ministry and dance. Over 100 women sat down to a delicious roast beef dinner prepared by the Host church.
