With a perfect 18-0 record (95 goals for and 19 against) during regular league play, Newcastle advanced to the second round of playoffs. After regrouping, the boys of Newcastle never looked back and won the following two games, win ning the series. The third round matched Newcastle Newcastle against Ops for the Southern loop championship. The best-of- three series saw Newcastle dominate, dominate, outscoring Ops 14-2, winning theseries. On March 2, the Southern loop champs started their best-of-five series series against the Northern loop champs from Fenlon Falls. Fans for game one were treated to excellent end-to-end action from the drop of the puck to the end of regulation time. With Newcastle fielding only nine skaters and a goalie, the boys, showing incredible focus and determination, played their hearts out for the entire 50 minutes. With Newcastle leading the game with only 22 seconds left in the third period, Fenlon Falls was awarded a penalty shot. Fenlon scored, ending the game in a 4-4 tie. Newcastle travelled to Fenlon Falls on March 6. Not being happy with a tie from the previous game, the boys came out flying. Excellent goaltending led the way for Newcastle. The goals were plentiful as the Durham Optical Novices won 5-2 and lead the series three points to one.
