We are also hoping to make a couple of changes to this year's tournament, making it even better than last year. In both previous tournaments (1992 and 1993), we have had 140 boys and girls from ages 10-18 participate in the two-day event, which begins on a Friday night and carries over into Saturday. All the details of this year's tournament will be published in next Wednesday's edition of The Canadian Statesman. •••••••••••« REGISTRATIONS AND TRY-OUTS -- As we did last week, we direct your attention to the numerous ads on today's sports pages that alert parents and players about upcoming registrations and try-outs for summer sports programs taking place in the municipality. Registering on the first available date accomplishes two things for everyone. For the volunteers, early registration means they can proceed with scheduling and a number of other matters if they know how many kids will be participating. For the kids, early registration ensures them a spot in the program. Orono Family Auto Tied In Quarter-Final Round After weekend play in OMHA Atom quarter-final playoff action, Orono's Family Auto Sales and Tam- worth's Sabres remain tied at one game apiece in a best-of-five, six point series. Saturday, March 5, the Sabres hosted Family Auto, overwhelming them with a 6-1 decision. Tamworth got on the board quickly with three straight goals on four shots just over four minutes into the match. Orono managed to shake off the hex long, enough to tally one of their goals as centre Tyler Robins scored in the first period. Assisting on the play were Brandon Camana and Pat O'Halloran. However, 3-1 was as close as Orono Orono could get as Tamworth added one in the second and two more in the third frame to round out the scoring. Orono knew they had their work cut out for them in game two as they hosted the Sabres on Sunday, March 6. Family Auto took the play to Tamworth Tamworth right away, scoring in the first period. Paul.Landers fed an uncovered Pat O'Halloran high in the slot area and the winger let a lazy, low wrister go that fooled the Tamworth netmind- er. Tamworth tied the game 1-1 on a power play late in the second period. Tamworth came on in the third frame, outshooting Orono 8-4, but Family Auto netminder Ryan Leddy played shutout hockey the rest of the way. With the score still tied after three frames, the game went into a ten min ute overtime period. Orono grabbed their second wind and grabbed the go- ahead goal three minutes into overtime overtime as Tyler Robinson ripped a shot high to the stick side on a setup from Boh Witheridge. Pat O'Halloran picked up the other assist on the play. One goal was all Orono needed as they held on to win 2-1 and tie the series. series. Although they didn't get their names on the scoresheet, forwards Matt McGlynn, Brandon Kettela and Greg Shetler did yeoman's work, skating skating hard in both ends of the rink the entire game. Thirty-eight students from Courtice Secondary School embarked on a March Break trip that will take them to England, Wales and Scotland, where they will play three exhibition games of rugby. Also making making the trip are some singers from the school, who will join with members of the rugby team to perform for high schools along the way. The rugby team will be playing games in Broxboume, England, Amman Valley, Wales, and Galashiels, Scotland. It's the first time in three years that the school has embarked such an extensive trip. The Novice Select Ice Hawks of the BRHL have extended their record to 21-13-4: On February 26, the Ice Hawks lost 3-1 to the Canadians of the Little NHL. Trevor Cowan and Jason Buck- ley set up Justin Roussy for the lone goal. Later in the evening, the Ice Hawks defeated Cedar Hill of Scarborough Scarborough 7-6. Adam Wilks and Justin Roussy paced the attack with two goals each. Single goals were by Chris McDaniel, Jason Buckley and Jason Lepine. Chris McDaniel and Ryan Smith had two assists each, with single" single" assists going to Chris Meringer; Garrett Dodds, Jason Buckely, David Brown, Matt Allen and Justin Roussy.
