Some of the details are still being worked out, so we can't release all of the information as of yet What we can tell you is that games will be held on Friday evening from 6-10 p.m., and again on Saturday from probably 9-5 p.m. The tournament will be restricted to boys and girls aged 10-18. Sec next Wednesday's edition of The Canadian Statesman for all the details, as well as a registration form. ■■•■••■■■••a NO WORD ON PROTEST -- Minor hockey officials from Bowmanville are still awaiting word on their appeal regarding the Juvenile series between Bowmanville and Barrie. You might recall that Bowmanville won the seventh and deciding game by a 10-0 score, but Barrie won a protest on the game, and was awarded the scries. Bowmanville filed an appeal, but still hasn't had a chance to plead the case. While all of this was going on, Barrie advanced to the All-Ontario semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Markham. How the Ontario Hockey Federation can continue delaying a decision on the appeal, while other playoff series continue to take place, is beyond us. Hopefully Bowmanville will learn, one way or another, of a decision shortly. asaaaaaaaaaa TIER I SOCCER -- The Darlington Youth Soccer League is in the midst of assembling a team to play in the under-9 division of the Durham Region Tier I Soccer League this year. NEWCASTLE REACHES ZONE FINALS - Nice to hear from the minor hockey alma matter in Newcastle about the resurgence of their OMHA program. The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, March 16,1994 9 by Brad Kelly There is some significance to the fact that the colours of Clarke High School are : highlighted with a touch of gold. That's gold, as in the colour of the school's latest provincial championship medal. For the second time this year, Clarke has solidified its place as the best volleyball school in the province at the single 'A' level. This time around, it was the senior girls' team who showed their dominance. Clarke defeated the host school from St. Marys, near Stratford, in the OFSAA gold medal match last Thursday, clinching the provincial title. Their victory made it a clean sweep for the school in volleyball at the senior level. In the fall, the boys' team also won the gold medal when they hosted the OFSAA 'A' championships. It was the victory by the boys that served as a motivational factor for the girls' team last "I took a gold medal from the boys' team along with us because I knew the girls wanted to keep up," said Lyn Lowry, who had the distinction of being the coach of both teams. "I showed them the medal before the semi-final match and told them we needed one more victory to have a chance at winning it. They went out and went right at Chelmsford.". Clarke swept Chelmsford in two straight games by scores of 15-8 and 15-6 to advance to the gold medal match against the host school from St. Marys. In addition to having the luxury of playing on their home court, St. Marys also had the support of a very vocal crowd, said Lowry. Noisemakers were passed out to spectators, and some fans even went to the extent of showing up to the game with their faces painted in a show of school spirit. "I wasn't sure how the girls would handle the pressure with the crowd," said Lowry of his young team. When Clarke jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the first game, his questions were answered. Clarke won the match in two straight games, 15-5,15-10. During round robin play,' finished first in their pool with four wins and a loss. Their only defeat came from North Grenville of Kemptville, who won the match two games to one. Clarke won all of the other round robin matches in two straight games. Heading into the tournament, Clarke were seeded number one after compiling a match record of 110-10. Their results from this year far exceeded their performance a year ago. At last year's OFSAA 'A' tournament, the team placed a disappointing Umpires Continue to Improve Destinations To Go Defeats Newmarket For League Crown The Destinations To Go: Minor Bantam Toros won three straight in a best-of-five series with Newmarket to win the York Simcoc Title.
