The score wasn't indicative of how close the game was, said coach Paul Jackman. For coach Paul Jackman, this is the fourth year in a row that he has guided a team to the Ontario finals. The En-Pro Associate Major Pee- wees are embroiled in a tough semifinal semifinal series with Orillia. Bowmanville Bowmanville dropped the first two games of the best-of-five series by scores of 5-4 and 5-2. Game three is Thursday night in Orillia. The winner of this series will advance to the finals against Orangeville. The Dennis Pizzeria Minor Novices Novices have reached the Eastern Zone Championship round, which is the farthest they can advance in their age category. Bowmanville won the York- Simcoe league title after ousting Newmarket. They will now face Scarborough in the finals. Details of the series weren't available at press time. In addition to the three teams mentioned above, six other Bowmanville Bowmanville teams who have been eliminated eliminated from OMHA playdowns, are still participating in York-Simcoe league playoffs. After a fun-filled season and excellent excellent coaching by Dave Brazcau and Marc Durctte, the Great Pine- ridge Kinsmen Junior girls entered the playoffs in third position, which had us facing off against Bewdley. On February 24, Newcastle #1 hosted Bewdley for game one of the series. Bewdley started the scoring off in the first period, but our girls came back with a goal from Tanya Hill, assisted by Tania LcLievrc and Brook Pakosta. Elizabeth Millson did a superb job in net, making the second and third periods scoreless. With a 1-1 tie, we went into a 10 minute sudden-death overtime period. Just over four minutes into the overtime Bewdley scored, defeating Newcastle 2-1. An excellent game by both teams. On March 2, Newcastle travelled to Bewdley for the second game of the series, hi the first period, Bewdley Bewdley started the scoring, but Newcastle's Newcastle's Lindsey Cowan came back with two goals, one unassisted and the other other assisted by Brook Pakosta. Great goaltending and defensive playing by both teams made the second second period scoreless. In the third period, Jessica Andrews Andrews got an unassisted goal. But Bewdley came back strong and got three goals, making the final score 4- 3 for Bewdley. Because of the loss, our girls advance to "B" Division against Colbomc. On March 8, Newcastle travelled to Colbome where they tied 1-1. Newcastle's goal went to Jessica Andrews, Andrews, unassisted. Excellent goal- tending by Elizabeth Millson and Central Ontario Peewee Wolves In Semi-Finals Having dispatched Ajax/ Pickering, then Oshawa three straight in the best-of-five, the Central Ontario Ontario Minor Peewee Wolves went on to meet the powerful Quinte Red Devils in the Eastern Triple A finals. Quinte went up 2-0 in the series with 4-2 and 5-4 (O/T) wins. But the pack dug deep and came back with three successive wins 3-1, 5-2 and 2- 0, to capture the EJ.A title and the right to advance to the All-Ontario semi-finals. The squad features local boys Mike Patrick of Newcastle, and Blake Aylsworth of Bowmanville. I Good Luck, boys! great team effort. On March 10, Newcastle hosted Colbomc for the second playoff game. It was a well-deserved shutout for goalie Elizabeth Millson and a great scoring night for Lindsey Cowan Cowan and Jessica Andrews, who led the Newcastle Kinsmen to a 6-0 victory. Cowan got the only goal in the first period with assists to Andrews and Brazcau. In the second period, Andrews got an unassisted goal. A goal was also scored by Cowan, with an assist to Tanya Hill and Jessica Andrews. In the third period, Cowan got two more unassisted goals, and Andrews Andrews got her second of the night, assisted by Cowan and Hill. There are no playoff games during the March break. Newcastle will host Colbome on March 24. Orono Skaters Bring Home Medals The Orono Figure Skating Gub is quite proud of the recent accomplishments accomplishments of one of its skaters, Melissa Colville (back row, far left). At the Eastern Ontario Sectional Interclub Competition held in Kingston, Melissa played first overall in the Gold Ladies' category, and will be skating in the Ontario finals in Sudbury on March 19. The other skaters in the above photo competed at the Manvers Mini- Blades competition on March 5. They include, front row, (1-r), Katie O'Neill (2nd), Tina Cumby, Rena Malda.
