First, Lindsay, then Port Perry, and now I'd like to look at Peterborough, my home town. Our bus driver is Mr. Kater, also vice-principal, guidance counselor, math and geography teacher at DCHS. We have about ten students from the Peterborough area. Mr. Kat- cr lives just outside Peterborough with his wife and four children, one of whom, Jason, is in grade 10 at DCHS. Mr. Kater says he liked teaching geography best because students students "make connections between Canada and the rest of the world". The qualities he likes best about Durham arc the atmosphere, the positive positive interaction, and the way people get involved. "When they get involved, involved, they develop something, whether it be sports, music, drama, whatever." Heather Nicholson is in grade 10 at DCHS. She lives in Peterborough with her parents, her sister, and her dog. Heather's, favorite subject is Theatre Arts, because she's an aspiring aspiring actress. She also likes Phys. Ed. When Heather's not being dramatic, she likes to play tennis, swim in their pool, walk her dog, or practice piano. She babysits, but hopes to get a summer summer job so She can save up for art college. Heather recently started up a youth group at her church, where her dad is the minister. Heather's mom is a resource teacher. Jason Bangma is a grade 9 student who lives on the outskirts of Peterborough. Peterborough. He is very much involved with sports; he's goalie on his hockey team, is on the Jr. volleyball team at DCHS, plays soccer, does track and field, and hopes to take up lacrosse in the near future. In his spare time, he says he likes to watch TV, talk on the phone, and sleep. Jason's favorite subject: Phys. Ed. of course. Jason's dad is a general contractor in Peterborough. Peterborough. His business is Bangma Construction. He was also the Reform Reform Party candidate for Peterborough Peterborough riding in the last federal election. election. Jason's mom goes to school, as well as babysitting her grandson, who also lives with their family. In other news, Durham students are looking forward to a unique opportunity opportunity this spring. One week after March Break, the entire school will be participating in service projects. The senior classes will be going to Maryland and Michigan on construction construction projects .and the junior classes will be doing various projects in the local community. This should prove to be exciting and memorable. More information will follow in the weeks to come. Happenings in Hampton by Michelle Baison - 1\ 697- So much for the "Spring break". The warmer, snow-free weather should be along shortly. If my memory memory serves me correct, we didn't even have our first heavy snow fall until Christmas Eve. Really, if you think about it, it has been a pretty mild winter. The Wednesday Euchre Card Party Party had a low attendance because of the snow storm. There were only six tables of players. Betty Kuyer had the highest score of 87. Tied for second place was Eldon McKay and Barb Cochrane with their scores of 83. Doreen Doreen Brock was third with 76. Not far behind was Harvey Yellowlees with his score of 75. Harvey also had the Most Lone Hands of four. The night's Most Honest Player was Jessie Jessie Edwards. Jessie had the all time record low. No one won the Special. The Draw winners were Nellie • Wright, Ruby Smith, Bernice Renton and Dave Hall. Also on Wednesday, some of the Hampton Cubs enjoyed an evening of swimming at the Bowmanville Recreational Recreational Center. Because of the spring break, there was no Youth Group this week. It will resume again on Tuesday, March 22nd. A Joint Session had been planned for February 23. This had to be postponed. postponed. The Joint Session will now be held on Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:30 p.m. Please note that the Sacrament of Holy Communion will be held Sunday, Sunday, March 27th. A Men's Breakfast has been planned for Sunday, March 27th at 8:00 p.m. This will be held at the Hampton United Church. The guest speaker will be Reverend Nancy Knox. Well folks, that's all the news you can use this week. Until next time, stay safe and enjoy life. OUR SEVENTH SUCCESSFUL YEAR ...
