Stiles The Newcastle Oldtimers travelled travelled to Niagara Falls for a three- day tournament, March 11-13 with most of the players taking their wives. Newcastle 9, Sarnia 1 Newcastle went up against Sarnia in their first game on Fnday evening and jumped to an early 2-0 lead within two minutes. They built a lead of 6-1 after one period, and 9-1 at games end. Newcastle 1, St. Catharines 1 Newcastle went against a team from St Catharines in their second game on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. The St. Catharine's squad scored first and Newcastle came back to tie it up. Niagara Falls 3, Newcastle 1 Newcastle went up against Niagara Niagara Falls in their third game of the round robin and came out on the short end of a 3-1 score. Bob Stiles did not play in this game due to an injury. Phil Fox also took a hard shot between the shin pad and skate and could not continue in the second period. After the round robin, Niagara Falls had a perfect 3-0 record, while Newcastle and St. Catharines had identical 1-1-1 records. Newcastle won the right to go against Niagara Falls because they scored 11 goals, while St. Catharines scored eight in the round robin. Newcastle 3, Niagara Falls 2 Newcastle went up against Niagara Niagara Falls on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. for the championship of their division. Glen MacKenzie and Leo Kelly had identical goals against averages in the four games which was 1.75. George Sainsbury received the MVP for Newcastle with'the winning winning goal. The rest of the players received received cooler bags. Jeny Dost and Bob Stiles, along with Phil Fox, who played two shifts, did not play in this game. Bob Stiles and Jim Hutchison Jr. looked after the coaching of the un- coachables to make sure that the line changes went smoothly and it must have worked. ni$ Pizzeria E The old saying "it ain't over till it's over" seems to be the best saying saying to describe this year's season. After travelling to Newmarket, the baby bulls ended a game in a 4-4 tie after ten minutes of overtime. This was after a tiring series against Pickering and the Timmy Tyke tournament, tournament, and the boys played like they were hockey'd out. The coaching staff got the team back on track at home and were 5-1 winners with a much improved team effort. In game three in Newmarket, the Toros scored at the drop of the puck and never looked back as they won game three by a 4-1 score. Game four was played at home and once again the Toros dominated play and were rewarded a 3-1 win. The time for the Timmy Tyke tournament has yet to be set on April 3.
