Do you remember playing these games with your school pals? Toastmaster Toastmaster MacGillivray chaired the Bowmanville Toastmasters meeting and reaffirmed his personal joy with the coming of spring. Many people have been thumbing through their seed catalogue's for weeks and are very excited about planting new seeds and plants. Our wild fowl are very busy preparing preparing their nests and picking just the right site. T.M. MacGillivray introduced the Ebenezer U.C.W. Members Hold Meeting in March On March 8,1994, at 7:30 p.m. 22 ladies and 1 granddaughter gathered in Ebenezer C.E. Centre for the regular regular meeting. President Greta Down greeted everyone with a St. Patrick's Day wish, followed by a poem entitled entitled 'Prescription for a Laugh'. The ensuring laughter indicated that the reading was effective. The U.C.W. Purpose was repeated and the Lord's Prayer. Gwen Muir read the Mission Minute Minute about a group being trained in Sudbury to assist persons in nursing homes to adjust and to provide hope, comfort and spiritual strength. Olive Munro opened the devotional devotional with prayer and spoke briefly of the thoughts the writer of Ecclesiastes Ecclesiastes was expressing. The verses chosen were from Chapter 3 - 'To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:', heaven:', and read beautifully with a delightful delightful Scottish accent. In the commentary, commentary, the emphasis was that in this time of great need in many areas of life, it should also be a time of great compassion and concern for' others. Charlotte Hughes introduced our guest speaker, Heather Brown, a volunteer volunteer co-ordinator of the Rose of Durham drop-in Centre in Oshawa, which has been operating since 1988. This is a group of concerned persons who are willing to give their time to provide some assistance to teenage mothers and fathers in a home-like atmosphere. Accompanying Mrs. Brown was a young woman who had come from a dysfunctional home and had appreciated appreciated the help received at Rose of Durham. Together, they described the programs offered to help make it possible for these young people to have a sense of worth and dignity. These include counselling and moral support as well as practical sessions such as cooking, self-improvement, budgeting etc. This expression of the love of God does make a difference and hopefully will break the generational generational cycle of social problems. Our guests were thanked by Janet Chartrand. The rescheduled Oshawa Presby- terial study event will be held at Courtice United Church on March 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a bag lunch.
