Neil's father, Harvc, was Hydro Manager for years here in the village. We welcome home Tom and Sandra Sandra Schmahl, Carly and Jordan who holidayed for two weeks in Bradenton, Bradenton, Florida. Weather was perfect for their vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Talbot Alldrcad, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Alldread, Michelle and Mitchell spent a couple of weeks recently recently in Largo, Florida. Mrs. Lynn Alldrcad is a patient in 1 Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. Hope you are soon well, Lynn. Miss Alan Ough, Ajax, spent a couple of days last week with her grandparents, Bette and Win Collier. We welcome new businesses to our village! On Monday evening, the Lioness directors of the Newcastle Club met in the Lions Den. Plans were made for their April 7 card parly which will be held in the Lions and Centennial Rooms of the Newcastle Community Hall. Time is 7:30 p.m. and cost is $2 per person. On Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell went to Manvcrs Arena Arena to watch grandson Grayden Hunt in a play-off game. On Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell visited Mr. and Mrs. George Buckley, Bowmanville and Morley Flintoff and Eva Couch, who arc patients patients in Memorial Hospital. On Saturday Lioness Kay Powell and Jean Rickard attended a Lioness Conference in Belleville, Kay was the winner of a special prize draw of a Lioness chair, proceeds of which went to the Sight-First project. Children's bowling ended on March 26. At 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, the children's banquet will be held. Newcastle Lions Clubs News On March twenty-third the Newcastle Newcastle Lions held their regular meeting meeting with 30 members and two guests attending. Jim ' Collicut, an invited guest and Mayor Hamre, the guest speaker. The dinner of ham, scalloped potatoes potatoes and home made pies was served by the Providence Shaws Women's Institute. After dinner the chairperson, President Lion Tony Clements asked Lion Mike Carter to introduce the guest speaker. Lion Mike commented that Mayor Hamre, well known by most of the members required very little introduction. The Mayor reviewed 1993 and gave the audience a look ahead to the coming year. Many exciting things are happening in Clarington this year and she shared a few of these with the Lions. Some projects she touched on were, the Waterfront Trail, the new firchall and the Official Plan. The Mayor also spoke on the wage and hiring policies of the Municipality Municipality and the plan to upgrade staff skills. Also the hiring of Todd Letts the new E.D.O. and Bill Stockwell the new C.D.O. After a lengthy question period, period, chairman Tony called on Lion Frank Hoar to thank Mayor Hamre and present her with a gift of appreciation. appreciation. A draw was held for a beautiful calendar frame, made and donated by lion Sierd DeJong. Lucky winner was Lion Roy Hopkins. Lion Gord Moulton reminded the club that a light bulb sale would be ready to go by early April. This will be a package of ten Long Life bulbs consisting of two 40W, six 60W and two 100 W bulbs. The package will sell for $10.00 and profits will go to SightFirst. Club elections were held and all offices were filled. Installation ceremonies ceremonies will take place at the last meeting in June. The next Newcastle Lions Club meeting will be in the Lions Room at the Newcastle Community Hall on April 13.
