Trevor Cowan opened the scoring for James Insurance at the 12:31 mark of the first period. However, the Leafs came storming back with five unanswered goals before the end of the period with Darren Kelly scoring scoring two, Bradley Knox, James Harris and Jeffery MacPherson had singles. Assists went to Matt Withers, James Harris and Jeff MacPherson. Ryan Evans, of James Insurance, scored the only .second period goal with the assist going to Kym Prout. s Darren Kelly completed his hat- trick in the third with Justin Ross assisting assisting to complete the scoring, giving giving the Thursday Night Town League a 6-2 win. On Sunday, March 27 the Leafs faced off against Carter's Bakery. Two weeks earlier, Carters had shut out the Leafs 4-0, so they had a little 'extra incentive to win this one. ■ However, one minute into the game, Stuart King put Carters up 1-0 with the assist going to Lyle McCormack. While some team members on both sides • were apparently enjoying the March Break, the members left behind shouldered the load in their first playoff match. Hoopers gained the lead scoring two goals in the first period. The first was an unassisted effort by Brian Tamblyn. The second belonged to Nolan Dower, assisted by Tamblyn and Rerrie, Steve LaFlamme assisted by Stravato reinforced the lead in the second period. Luxton and Dao recorded recorded the shut-out for a final score, Hoppers 3, Novico 0. The second playoff encounter saw Hoopers meeting Checkers in a rare early morning .appearance at Newcastle arena. Defeat Melvem For Novice Zone 3 Title After squeaking by a 3-2 win in the first game, the Toros won a close second game 4-2 in Darlington arena and now they were to take their show on the road as they had a meeting for Saturday afternoon in Melvcm.
