Stiles The Newcastle Sometimers and the Newcastle B&F Peelers squared off at the Newcastle Memorial Arena Arena on Sunday, March 27, at 10 a.m. for the coveted Chamber Pot Trophy, Trophy, and the summer bragging rights as to who are the champs for the year. Leading the Peelers were Bill Robinson and Dave Ixivell with two goals each. Doug Sinclair and Don Organ had one goal and one assist each, Dennis Knapp and Rick Stephenson Stephenson had two assists each, along with Guy Parks, Glenn Murphy and A1 Black who all had one assist each. The Peelers just got to full man- Busy Week of Games For Mr. Sub Peewees On Wednesday, March 16, the Mr. Sub team travelled to Tweed to compete in a peewee tournament. The first game found the Sub boys up against a team from Ome- mee. The Sub boys went into this game with only nine skaters. The Sub boys lit up the score- board early when Shawn Watson scored on a setup from Mike McCrary. The Sub boys notched their second goal on a goalmouth, scramble with Matt Meadows scoring scoring the goal and Niko Anastassakis and Chris Peldiak assisting. The third goal was scored on some good passing with Niko getting the goal with Shawn and Mike assisting. The fourth Sub goal was scored by Sub's little man, Luke Thompson, Thompson, on a setup from Niko and Mike. The fifth Sub goal was scored by Lucas Leskiw as he skated through the whole Omemee team before putting putting the puck past the goalie. Omemee Omemee then notched their first goal of the game. Sub got this back when Mike fed Niko, who slipped the puck past the goalie and into the net. The Subs' seventh goal was scored when Derek Derek Welch jumped on a loose puck and one-timed it into the net The Omemee team then scored a power play goal. The Sub boys got this back when Matt scored on a setup from Chris. The final Sub goal was scored on a nice individual play by Chris. The final score was Sub 9, Omemee Omemee 2. Dave McLinton came up with some big saves in the Sub net The second game found the Sub boys up against Bradbury Mechanical Mechanical of Whitby. The last time these teams played was at the Bowmanville Bowmanville tournament, with Whitby taking taking the win. The Whitby team came out fast, scoring two goals in a span of 30 seconds, the Sub boys cut the lead in half late in the second period when Chris dug the puck out to Lucas Lucas at the point, who let a blast go that the goalie couldn't stop, allowing allowing Derek to pop the puck into the net. The Sub boys kept the pressure on but could not score. Whitby notched their third goal late in the game to make the final Sub 1, Whitby Whitby 3. On Thursday, March 17, the Sub boys played their first game of the playoffs against Computer Learning. Learning. The Sub boys skated to a 13-1 victory. The fourth Sub goal was scored when Chris dug the puck out to Niko who one-timed it into the net. The Sub boys scored their fifth goal when Mike passed the puck to Niko, who split the defence defence before sliding the puck into the net. The final score was Sub 5, Checkers 2. power when Don Organ scored one minute later, assisted by Glenn Murphy Murphy and Doug Sinclair for a 2-1 lead. Bill Robinson gave the Peelers a 3-1 lead at 12:27, assisted by Dennis Dennis Knapp and Don Organ. Greg Sloan finally connected at 13:03, assisted assisted by George Sainsbury and Sandy MacDonald to narrow the margin to 3-2 Peelers. Jerry Thompson had his bench cheering for a score, but Leo Kelly opened his glove and said: "I'm sorry, guys." Dave Lovell scored what proved to be the winner on a turnover in the Newcastle end, assisted by Rick Stephenson Stephenson at 14:24. Bill Perry scored his second at 15:38, assisted by Dave Roote to narrow the lead to 6- 5 for the Peelers. The Sometimers could not score with the extra attacker.
