Have a safe and happy summer. Policy of Eagles' Executive Irks Parents of Local Team Dear Editor Last week, my son's hockey hockey team was contacted by the Bowmanville Jr. C organization. organization. In recognition of the Orono atoms' run in Ontario playdowns, they would be centre ice guests before the start of the April 10th Jr. C game. We had an afternoon game 3 1/2 hours away. But, if we hurried, we could get the kids on the ice. As I walked to the door of the arena, a crowd of our parents parents and some grandparents was outside. They told me in spite of the fact they only wanted to see the atoms honoured honoured and leave, they had to pay to attend the Jr. C game. I also had no intention of staying after an already long weekend of hockey, and stated stated so at the ticket booth. After several minutes of debate, I was back outside to tell the parents I had no luck. My first impulse was to say there is no way I am paying $10 for my wife and I, for a game I'm not staying to watch. However, my son and his team were going on in 10 minutes. Naturally, I had to fork over the ten bucks, which a sheepish ticket seller took. Wc watched the boys skate to centre ice, sang the national anthem, and retired to the lobby lobby to await my son. When he arrived, wc headed for the door. Seeing the ticket seller, I again pointed out we were paying ten dollars, not to sec the 'C' game, but for this honour honour for which we were invited. invited. Her response was that she didn't think they should be invited invited during playoffs, whatever whatever that had to do with it. This letter should have been a thank you note for the Jr. C's for recognizing the Orono atoms. Instead, I have to say, shame on you Eagles for your miserly cash-grab from a group of tired hockey parents.
