For the seventh consecutive year, the percentage of registered home builders with the highest (excellent) rating increased over the previous year, showing a modest five per cent gain over 1993. Considering the building industry's grim prospects for the last four years, ONHWP's 5,307 registered builders fared favorably favorably in the housing market, with 1603 builders attaining an excellent rating in 1994. Every year the Home Buyer's Guide is updated and those builders who earn an excellent rating receive ONHWP's Seal of Excellence Excellence certificate which they proudly display in their sales office. "It is a tribute to several thousand builders in this province that they have survived the economic after shocks of the recession yet continued to provide their customers with top, after sales service to qualify for an excellent rating," says Aubrey Le- Blanc, Chief Operating Officer of ONHWP. Home buyers use the Home Buyer's Buyer's Guide as a practical tool during their search for a new home referring to the alphabeticalized listing of builders and the tips on mortgages, legal advice and warranty coverage. The 160-page booklet acts as a report card marking builders on their after sales service with either excellent, above average, average or below average average grades. The ratings are based upon a builder's claims, history for at least the past three years rather than a judgment of the builder's workmanship. workmanship. In total 1,649 ratings were grouped as follows in comparison with 1993 figures: * 1,603 excellent ratings, a 4.9 per cent increase * 8 above average ratings, a 20 per cent decrease * 15 average ratings, a 53.2 per cent decrease * 23 below average ratings, a 45.2 per cent decrease.
