Announces Slate of Officers for 1994-95 Maple Grove W.L met in the C.E. Hall at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 11th with Mrs. A. Vandergaast, Pres, in charge of the following business. Mrs. Vandergaast welcomed everyone, everyone, especially our District Pres., Mrs. Margaret Ford and Mrs. Barbara Kapetyn of Solina. Name something you would like demonstrated at a meeting. Minutes Minutes were read and approved and the treasurer's report given. Letters of thanks were read from Willie Eeuwes and Jenny Bowman. Our Good Neighbours convenor was ill, so no report was given. One of our members is being married and a gift is being looked after by Marjorie Marjorie Prescott and Mary Ann Doyle. Another member, Helen Smit, is at home after an operation and her report report is good and she will be remembered remembered by Good Neighbour convenor.. Also, another member, Mrs. Pearl Jollymore, is in hospital. It was decided decided to give Good Neighbour convenor convenor $30. Mary Ann Found agreed to act as our rep on the District education education committee. You have heard the old saying if you have big feet, you have a good foundation. Maybe they were right, for without our feet we could not stand or walk. Without our earth, which is our first foundation, there would be no past, no today or a future. future. But, most of all we must remember remember to be thankful to God for creating the first foundation so we could have a future. A short skit was enjoyed by all. Shirley Bubar represented the past in dress and hat of the past. Marjory Marjory Prescott represented the present and Brenda Metcalf represented the future with her gold hair, sporting a pair of antennas. Brenda told of some of our past W.l. history when we had 54 members members and met in homes but finally had to move to larger premises. 45 years ago we served a wedding lunch for 850. Short courses have l^een enjoyed for years through the Dept, of Agriculture and now we do a lot of our own planning for courses. In the future we will have rapid change and many new views of how we conduct our lives. Mother's Day is coming up, so Brenda ended with a reading entitled 'Motherhood has its rewards'. Letter to the Editor WastingTaxes: It's necessary to use all our resources resources more efficiently - especially public resources. Presently we have hundreds of miles of unused roads in Durham Region costing millions of dollars yearly in maintenance. For decades now, we have subsidized the few residencies on these roads. This tax less of the past can easily become a multi -million dollar gain if our management starts more wisely. We must allow people to live along these roads. This will allow more people to live outside our endangered cities near the nuclear plants. This plan will increase the available building building lots and reduce the high pricing. Most important, this will increase our tax base in the community, eliminating eliminating further tax increases. Many family farms will receive a boost from this step just when it is needed. The coming years under free trade and GAAT spell doom for these fam ilies if they don't get this boost. Yours truly, Douglas W. Wilson Cubs and cubmasters cram into position at the finish line of the Kub Kar track to cheer on their vehicles during the West Durham District's Kub Kar Rally finals held Saturday at the BowmanviUe High School gym. Teams from BowmanviUe, Newcastle, Enniskillen, Enniskillen, Hampton, Orono and Pontypool competed in the event. The hand-crafted Kub Kars were judged for show and speed. Winners went home with trophies.
