Christianity. The Reverend Robert Hartley in his sermon demonstrated how the conversion of the Celts by the East- ' em Desert Christians in the third century century had lastingly affected the worship worship and rites of the Anglican Church. The prayers during the Service Service were also in the tradition of the Celts and their unity with the natural world. Mr. Hartley was assisted by Lay Reader, Cathy Moulton. The flowers at the Altars were given in Thanksgiving by Nell and Fred Yates. This evening the Advisory Board will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oakley Peters. Plans are afoot to clean up the Cemetery with volunteers volunteers performing the work the next two Saturday mornings. The A.C.W. are busy preparing for the annual Roast Beef Dinner on Sunday, the day after St. George's Day. There will be only one sitting at 5:30. Tickets Tickets are available from Joan Haring at 623-5266 and Marg Tait at 623-4242. On Sunday there will be Holy Communion at eight and Morning Prayer at eleven. The theme will be Christian Healing: Anglican Style. Newcastle United Church On Monday, April 11, the Sunshine Sunshine Unit of the UCW met in the Board Room. Mrs. Shirley Coyle introduced introduced her friend and guest speaker Kay Moore. Her topic was Settlement Settlement House, which began as Simcoe Hall for underprivileged children. Mr. Charles Robson's house on Simcoe Simcoe South, Oshawa was donated and has retained its homey atmosphere. In 1951 a new gymnasium was built on the property. Handicapped, Seniors, Seniors, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Grandview and Eastview all started to meet here, funded by the United Way. Worship was presented along with Kay's presentation. Food Bank,' Boys and Girls programmes, Women's Women's Wellness Centre and some Seniors Seniors have hot lunches and excursions. Business was conducted by presi dent Ann Cox and lunch was served by Vicki Lesnick and Shirley Coyle. On Sunday April 17th at Newcastle Newcastle United Church the Junior Choir sang two songs Let It Be and In the Bulb There is a Flower. Please return the copier information information booklet. Solina W.l. Holds Annual Meeting The April meeting of Solina W.l. was held at 7:00 p.m. on April 13/94. President Margaret Ford welcomed members and 4-H members who later made presentation of three plays which they had written for the Drama Club. Following the presentations we enjoyed dessert and tea. Diane Bowman Bowman received a special award for completing 24 4-H projects. Barbara Kapetyn thanked the 4-H members and leaders Karen Dair and Jennifer Bowman. Paula Pascoe thanked the W.l. for their support of 4-H. In the upper hall we continued our meeting. Ida Bray introduced her granddaughters Leanne and Hilary Bray who favoured us with piano solos, solos, You Lift Up My Life, Entertainer Cheers, Jesus Love Me and Humpty Dumpty. Jean Taylor thanked the girls. Jean then presented à Memorial for Faye Vice who passed away in March. A beautiful poem of the sessions sessions of life was read. Jean remembered remembered Faye as a member with many talents which she used for others. She had held many positions in W.l. both in our Branch and at the District W.L Faye will be remembered as a true friend and a valued member of our Institute. Barbara asked that we pick up information information on the Cancer Treatment Centre in Oshawa and send in the cards. Barbara has the information if you do not have it. Blaikic Rowscll commented on the Motto, "Opportunity is a gift, treasure it, be thankful, use it." Blaikie gave us a motto for living through a prose poem, Desiderata. It suggests that we be at peace with God, be careful and strive to be happy. happy. The Solina W.L annual meeting then took place with President Margaret Margaret Ford calling for minutes and financial financial report. Doris Hills gave the auditor's report. Young and older people have been keeping busy. The Youth Group continues to meet on Tuesdays. Ruth Farrow and Marie Brooks had the highest scores of 84 at Wednesday's Euchre Card Party. Wilma Kantor had the second highest score of 80. Next was Fred Watson with 79. The Draw winners were Muriel Butson, Win Brown and Grace Murdock who won three draws! The Hampton Women's Institute held a very successful Soup and Salad Salad Luncheon this past Thursday. Over one hundred people attended! A delicious meal and great conversation was had by all. On behalf of President President Betty Kuyer and the other Hampton W.L members, we thank- you for your support. Also, a special thank-you to the husbands for their help. A Youth Dance was held on Saturday. Saturday. This was held at the Hampton Community Center from 7-11 p.m. There are few items of "yet to come" so keep your pens and calendars calendars handy. A Men's Breakfast will be held this Sunday, April 24th at the Zion Church. Men and senior boys are welcome to attend at 8:00 a.m. The P.T.O. of the Hampton Junior Public School will be meeting Thursday, Thursday, April 28th. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. This will be a follow-up of last November's meeting about Positive Parenting. The Hampton Ladies Fitness Classes will be beginning their next session soon. Monday's classes begin April 25 and run for eight weeks. Wednesday's classes begin April 27 and run until June 22nd. A qualified Y.W.C.A. instructor will work you out in the C.E. wing of the Hampton United Church on Old Scugog Road. Women from all areas are welcome.
