They performed two songs during Grandparents' Day at the school. In this song, they sang "This Little Light of Mine." Notice that the children are holding "candles" they made. From Page One plished and decide what to do next Local residents had a chance to ask questions after the presentations. One resident, Lloyd Stevenson, of Newcastle Village, suggested that instead of digging, stabilizing, and moving the material, a wall could be built to keep it from moving into Lake Ontario. Another wanted to know how safe the ponds on the property are. Yet another person wanted to know how dangerous it would be to walk along the lakeshore close to the location of the materials. He noted noted that his grandchildren have walked along that stretch of beach. John Veldhuis, the mediator of the meeting, replied: "It is safe unless unless they started eating the soil." Another resident wanted to know how the material would be taken off the dump site. Veldhuis replied: "There will be no truckloads going past your door, but it will leave on a railway spur." The rail line would come from the north, across Lakeshore Road, and into the site. He also pointed out the material would be placed within sealed containers containers for its journey. The site, once the material is gone, will be contoured and turned into what was called a "passive park." It would be accessible to people. people. Dr. Dubois noted that the property property will be cleaned up to the point where it could be used as residential property, but assured those at the meeting, homes would not be built here. The cost of a new facility for the waste material from the Eldorado sites would depend on the type decided decided on. Dr. Dubois estimated that it would cost $64 per tonne for an above-ground facility, but $119 for a cavern facility. The potential host community, Deep River, is currently negotiating a compensation/benefits package, said Dennis Wood, the Chair of the Siting Task Force. This should be completed by October, October, 1994. Wood said the package could contain money for infrastructure programs, tax subsidies, or any number of items beneficial to the host community.
