} i 6 The Independent, Canadian Statesman Weekender, Bowmanville, Saturday, May 14,1994 Office Of Liaison Group Ladies Auxiliary of Bowmanville Legion Donates $2,700 Slated to Close in July By John Veldhuis The Clarington Community Liaison Liaison Group is closing its office in the Village of Newcastle as of July 1, 1994. We have to be fiscally responsible to the taxpayers of Canada and upon close scrutiny of our costs, have come to the realization that money can be saved by closing our office on King Street. The Clarington Community Liaison Liaison Group will continue to work on any outstanding issues but this will have to be done in a different manner than we have used. What are the outstanding issues still to be resolved? 1. A Site Specific Clean-up Criteria Criteria report. 2. Subcommittee 4 summary report. report. 3. The Environmental Screening of the Remedial Action Plan. 4. The Specific Remedial Action Plan. 5. Detailed studies of the Transportation Transportation methods. 6. Baseline health survey. 7. Baseline environmental studies. 8. A final summary report. These are just a few of the items which still need to be completed. We will keep you informed of our progress through these updates. We may even have another public meeting meeting in the fall to give you another chance to comment on our work and recommendations we have prepared. The Community of Geraldton has opted out of the process, but Deep River is still very much involved. Site selection is moving ahead and test drilling is being executed to obtain obtain a detailed picture of the granite rock which makes up the bedrock. We are looking at the end of this month for our report on clean-up criteria criteria applied to the Newcastle site. This report, like all other reports, is available for your viewing in the office. office. Yes, we still have a lot of work to do, but our Clarington group will do everything possible to complete the- job in a timely and careful manner. We have heard your concerns that we must be cost-effective and closing the office on July 1, 1994 is just one way of living up to that concern. If you need more information, please do not hesitate to call 987- 7786 for the latest update and the time and place of our next meeting.
