The one-day meet was held on Thursday, June 2 at Bowmanville High School. Competing against the best that the country has to offer, Murdoch was presented with a bronze medal after Finishing third in kata. In fighting, fighting, he was a fifth. Both results are considered very impressive at this top-calibre meet "I did as well as I expected," said Murdoch, adding, 'T was a little little nervous." Murdoch was competing in the 14/15-year-old heavyweight and kata divisions against some of the top, young karate prospects in the country. Overall, there were 250 competitors representing every province at the National Championships. Championships. Murdoch was one of 52 athletes who comprised the Ontario team. There is an outside chance his third place finish in kata could qualify qualify him for the Junior Pan-American Games which arc slated for the Dominican Dominican Republic in September. As it stands now, he is an alternate for the team. If one of the top two finishers finishers is unable to attend, then Murdoch Murdoch would step into the open spot, With that in mind, he is back training diligently at the Maple Leaf Karate Club, under the watchful eye of coach Charles Kcnnish, hoping to get the call to go. "I'm going to be training hard for the Pan-Ams. That's a whole new level," said Murdoch. The 14-ycar-old qualified for the Ontario team after finishing first overall in the 55+ kilo division after three preliminary competitions that were held at Belleville, Newmarket and the University of Toronto.
