Timely Advice About Buying Cottages This article is provided by local Realtors and the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) for the benefit of consumers in the real estate market. market. Do you dream of spending long summer afternoons on a dock beside a cool, crystal-clear lake? Do you like waking up to the call of the loons, or listening to the soothing sound of waves lapping up against the shoreline? Do you enjoy the distant distant hum of outboard motors and outdoor outdoor activity -- or do you prefer absolute absolute tranquility and the sound of whispering pines? If so, a cottage or recreational property may be just the answer. Even if you're not a dyed-in-the- wool nature lover and don't enjoy "roughing it," there arc cottage and recreational properties to suit virtually virtually every taste and budget. And now, with lower interest rates, a cottage and recreational properties properties to suit virtually every taste and budget. Where to Look If you're seriously considering investing investing in a cottage or recreational property, you should realize that location location is a key clement. Any Realtor will tell you that the three most important important things about a property arc: "location, location, location!" Obviously, if you want a more isolated property far away from the din of the city, you and your family will have to be prepared to spend more time traveling to and from your cottage - and you might not want to end up sacrificing a lot of your free time to do this. However, some people prefer to be as far away from civilization as possible, and for them, the extra driving driving time is well worth it. There can be other benefits as well; the more remote your chosen property is, the less expensive it's likely to be compared compared to something that's within short and easy commuting distance of major centres. However, if your spare time is already already stretched to the limit and you want easy access to your property, it might be advisable to look at areas closer to home. Zeroing In Once you've zeroed in on the general general area in which you'd like to have a cottage or recreational property, it's time to look at the amenities various properties have to offer. Some cottage areas are more like small urban communities and you have to walk a few blocks to access the waterfront. Others arc more remote remote and each cottage has private access access to the shoreline. Whatever you prefer, be sure to take your entire family's needs and preferences into consideration when narrowing down a location.
