Clarington Council Gives Go-Ahead To Paint House Numbers on Curbs Charges Laid After Police Chase Yourths Clarington council has decided to give the go-ahead to a proposal to paint house numbers on municipal curbs. The proposal was first introduced at a meeting of the general purpose and administration committee June 6th. A report containing recommendations recommendations from the Chief Administrative Administrative Officer, Bill Stockwell, states the Director of Public Works "must approve the colours to be used." When homeowners are solicited, they will be notified in a contract that the municipality is not a party to the contract, and does not guarantee guarantee the work to be done. A police chase that began in Newcastle Newcastle and ended in Bowmanville resulted resulted in two young offenders being apprehended and charged. The youths were in a 1993 Dodge Caravan which had been taken from the Holiday Inn in Oshawa after 9:30 on Tuesday night, June 14, said Staff Sgt. Sandy Ryrie. With several police vehicles in hot pursuit, the youths were chased west from Newcastle along Highway Two from Rudell Road where they were first spotted. The chase ended when, "the van smashed into a tree at King and Division Division when the driver tried to turn the comer," Staff Sgt. Ryrie noted. The youths, aged 15 and 17, are expected to appear in court today, Wednesday, June 15. The 15-year old will be charged with possession over $1,000 and breach of recognizance. Courtice Resident Asks For New Street Lights A concerned Courtice resident wants street lights along Courtice Road North. In a letter to Clarington Council, Josephine Love says the street lights along Courtice Road currently end at Westmore Street. "I will say it is like driving into a tunnel after the lights stop," Love wrote. "As a taxpayer in Courtice for approximately 30 years, surely my request is not out of line.
