The Cartwright High School Senior Senior Wind Ensemble, directed by John Bejmeas play several numbers especially especially for Mr. Ashton. Best wishes were extended by Scugog Mayor Howard Hall who presented presented Ray with a special plaque. Graduation time for many Blackstock and area students. Roasters each reviewed many events in the years Ray taught. They were Joyce Kelly who also brought greetings from the Durham Board of Education, Gord Paisley, former Principal, Donna Kyte, Pat Adams, Ron Martyn, Howard Bailey, Elizabeth Elizabeth Peelers, Jen Fletcher and Jill VanCamp and Michelle Morton. Carol Carol Shepherd made a presentation on behalf of her husband M.P. Alex Shepherd. Michelle Morton presented presented her retiring teacher with a painting of the "Little School with the Big Heart", painted by Donna Griffen- Smith, a local artist. Ray gave a fine reply. Following the closing remarks which included a voice of appreciation appreciation to Michelle Morton who had organized organized this party, much visiting and renewing school friendships took place among graduates who had returned returned from many areas for the happy occasion. Last weekend Helen and Stuart Dorrell attended Convocation Exercises Exercises at Nipissing University in North Bay when their daughter Annie received received Her Bachelor of Education on Saturday. From North Bay they travelled travelled on to Kemptville where they attended attended the 45th reunion of Stuart's class. Also attending this special reunion reunion were Jack and Helen Green of Blackstock and Wes and Doris Hills of Enniskillen. Glenn and Marion Larmer and Richard and Ruby Van- Camp also attended reunion activities of their class. From Kemptville Stuart Stuart and Helén travelled on to Morris- burg where they visited Stuart's brother Roger and Ethel Dorrell. Lynn McLaughlin also received her Bachelor of Education at the Convocation at Nipissing University. Her guests included her parents Lawrence Lawrence and Linda McLaughlin and her grandmother Mrs. Bertha McLaughlin. McLaughlin. On Saturday, Chris Carter graduated graduated in Business Administration in Accounting at Durham College, Chris was top in her class and received received a Silver Medal. A few weeks ago Frances had travelled to Michigan to attend the Convocation for Vicki when she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Classical Studies: History from Hillsdale College. The annual Blackstock District Girl Guide Banquet was held at the Rec. Centre on Monday, Jtme 6th. • The banquet began with O Canada, Toast to the Queen, Toast to the Guide Movement by Heather Parsons replied to by Nicole Adams and Toast to the Mothers by Lindsay Crouter replied to by Linda Kyte. Johnny Appleseed Grace was sung and a delicious dinner enjoyed. This year two girls received their Canada Cords: Nicole Adams and Lindsay Crouter., Presentations were made by the Unit, District Division, province (presented by Ward 4 Coun cillor David Deitlein), M.P. (presented (presented by Mrs. Alex Shepherd) arid parents. parents. Congratulations Nicole and Lindsay! Kate Mairs, Heidi Obstfeld and Heather Goulding (Rangers) received their Bronze Level of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The Religion in Life (Stagel) Emblem was presented to Janice Kadowaki. Jan Martyn was presented with a 10 year (plus) Service Service Award while Glenna McLeod and Deb Crouter received 5 year service service awards. Some of our Guiders were busy with training this year: Chris Rickey (Stage 2 Training) and Liz Henderson and Lisa Herndon both receiving Stage 1 Training. Six Sparkles advanced to Brownies: Brownies: Natalie Beechey, Erin Lang, Meghan Meghan O'Neill, Rina Prendergast, Ashley Ashley Radcliffe and Taryn Wagar. Caesarea Brownies Fly-up to Girl Guides were - Allana Dobson, Monica Monica Duyvestyn, Mellisa Herndon, Allana Allana Holland, Sarah Rickey, Katie Riley, Riley, Shannon O'Leary, and Erin Westall. 3rd Blackstock Brownie Pack Fly- ups were - Caitlin Shields, Kristyna Bauer, Rachel Van Oostveen, Andrea Bonsma and Katie Beal., Seven Girl Guides received their Fun and Challenge and will advance to Pathfinders. They are Gayle Ding- man, Sarah Hobbs, Elisha James, Meghan Kyte, Carla McLaughlin, Lisa Parsons and Sarah Stapley. Nicole Nicole Adams and Lindsay Crouter will advance from Pathfinders to Rangers. A special thank-you goes out to all of our leaders for their time and dedication dedication towards the Guiding Movement Movement and especially to our District Commissioner Pat Obstfeld A very impressive evening. On Thursday afternoon Nancy Bryans and Patti Alpe attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at Field- stone Estates on Trull's Road, Cour- tice. This farm was originally Nancy's Nancy's grandparents home (Morley and May Wilkins). Nancy's Mom, Babe Brown cut the ribbon along with her brother Harold Wilkins and sisters Mary Meldrum and Ethel (Tess) Saison Saison were part of the celebrations. Dale and Anita Davis of Bobcay- geon were weekend guests of Mrs. Margaret Mountjoy and attended several several of the events going on here in Blackstock. On Friday and Saturday evenings two fine Variety nights were held at the United Church. A small orchestra led by Alex Ingram played chamber music. One highlight was a duet of flutist Erica and Alex. The Port Perry Senior Choir favoured with several numbers on Friday evening. The Blackstock Junior choir sang several numbers. Judi Mountjoy did a skit with the junior choir members. Duets were performed by Linda Hunter of Greenbank and Linda Kyte. The men members of the choir did some barbershop barbershop numbers. Solos performed by Glenn Larmer and Wendy Mand were greatly enjoyed. A special reading reading was done by Kelly Gatchell on Friday evening and Heather . Goulding Goulding on Saturday evening. The evening's evening's programme was concluded by number' by the Blackstock Senior Choir. A fine programme indeed. Sunday School anniversary services services were held on Sunday morning at Blackstock United. Julie Obstfeld and Brooke McLaughlin conducted the service. Sunday School classes gave special music. Speaker for the service was Sam Dempster of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The annual Decoration Service was held at Union Cemetery on Sunday Sunday afternoon. Speaker for the service service was Reverend David Shearman. The service was shortened when the rain clouds quickly arrived. Many people enjoyed the fellowship prior to the service. There were 10 tables at the weekly weekly Tuesday evening card party with the following winners - Muriel But- son, Laureena Bright, Loma Swain, James Emerton, Mary Forest, Reg Elliott, Elliott, Margaret Henney. Draws were won by Carl Ferguson, Mary Pools," Reg Elliot, Doreen Ferguson, Vera Fawns and Harold Swain. Families Needed To Host Students Karin Femlund is bringing the world to the Whitby/Bowmanville area - one International Teenager at a time! Karin is a volunteer area representative representative for ASSE International Student Student Exchange, a non-profit, Public Benefit Organization. The Primary Goal of ASSE is to contribute to International International Understanding by enabling enabling students from a variety of Countries to learn about Canada through active participation in family, family, school and community life. Karin will be interviewing families families in the Whitby/Bowmanville area to host exceptional high school students students from Scandinavia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Holland, Great Britain, Japan, Czech and Slovak Slovak Republics, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. These well qualified students, all of whom have a command command of English, stay with volunteer host families, as a family member, for an Academic year. All ASSE exchange exchange students arrive with comprehensive comprehensive insurance and their own spending money. Families in the Whitby/ Bowmanville area can provide a wonderful experience for a student from another country to learn about life in Canada.
