JÊʱ •■vV-v; 1 i^-S: m Red Cross Invites Teenagers To Participate in Conference The Red Cross is inviting young people between the ages of 16-19 who are involved/interested in global issues to apply for participation in the Youth Conference on International Development titled "One Planet, One People". ' The Conference will be held August August 21-26, 1994 at Cedar Glen Conference Conference Centre, Bolton, Ontario. Objectives of the Conference are: - to leam about the International Red Cross movement, - To enhance leadership skills - to prepare volunteers for effective effective community involvement. The Conference fee is $190 which covers meals, accommodation, conference conference materials and transportation. Delegates are responsible for getting to and from the Metro Toronto Red Cross office. Space is limited for this Conference, Conference, which is made possible with funding assistance from "The Canadian Canadian International Development Agency (CID A)." Bowmanville Resident Gena Jaspers-Fayer, a resident of Bowmanville, has been awarded a Redeemer Foundation Leadership Scholarship worth $1250.00. The scholarship is awarded to applicants who have demonstrated Christian commitment and leadership qualities. It will help Gena pursue her university university studies at Redeemer College, eastern eastern Canada's only Christian liberal arts University. Gena attended Bowmanville High School, where she was extensively involved in sports, often as a coach. She also served as an executive in her youth group, and "adopted" an elderly elderly lady at a nursing home. Gena says she chose to go to Redeemer Redeemer because she was interested in pursuing her post-secondary studies from a Christian perspective. She plans to pursue studies in Physical/ Outdoor Education or Geography, and hopes to become either a coach or a teacher. St. Stephen's Secondary School Yearbook Committee gathered for their first annual breakfast meeting meeting last week and presented guest of honor, principal Mike Nolan, with a special gift.
