WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15TH BOWMANVILLE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY Apple-grower Kirk Kemp will address the Bowmanville Horticultural Society. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in the Trinity United Church Hall. Volunteers from the 130 M&M Meat shops across the country are hoping to raise $400,000 through this project CLARKE MUSEUM BOOK SALE - Clarke Museum and Archives will be holding its giant second hand book sale from 10 a.m. to four p.m. The sale is taking place at the museum, with thousands of titles to choose from. Topics include how-to books, children's selections, biographies, mysteries, histories, and lots more. Paperbacks are just 25 cents each and hardbacks are 50 cents. At 4:30 p.m., the pork barbecue begins. Tickets for the barbecue cost $10 for adults and $5 for kids between five and 10 years of age. POWER SQUADRON COMES TO NEWCASTLE - The Oshawa Power and Sail Squadron will hold a marine flare demonstration on Saturday, June 18th, at the Port of Newcastle. With help from the Coast Guard, CMRA, OPP and Durham Regional Police, voluntary checlœ of vessels will be provided between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., a demonstration of marine flares will take place. MONDAY, JUNE 20TH MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ANNUAL MEETING - The annual general meeting of Memorial Hospital Bowmanville Corporation will take place at 7 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria. The agenda includes the hearing of reports and the election of directors. Bonnie Heath, of the Ministry of Health, will be the guest speaker. She will discuss the subject of midwifery in community hospitals. Plans call for attractions including clowns, face-painting, a petting zoo, baking contest and pie-eating contest. There will also be wagon rides available. All proceeds will be donated to the Hugh MacMillan Children's Foundation. The categories include vintage farm tractors, 4x4 trucks and all other varieties of stock and modified tractors, some of which weigh up to nine tons. The Heritage Week Committee is looking for floats and for marchers of all kinds -- both individuals and organizations. The theme this year is "Pioneer Days."
