There were 2,730 homes sold in the first six months of 1994 compared compared with 2,352 in 1993. The number of sales in Whitby were up 17.0% with the dollar volume volume up by 20.9% over this same period period in 1993. Oshawa's sales were up 21.4% with a dollar volume up by 25.1%. Bowmanvillc's increase in sales over 1993 were 37.6% with the dollar volume up 40.9%. And Scu- gog's increase in sales were 9.8% with a dollar volume up by 18.7%. "The market has been strong the first six months of this year but with the recent drastic increase in interest rates, and the effect of summer holidays, holidays, this will definitely have a negative negative impact on the real estate market," says Anita Witty, President of the Durham Region Real Estate Board. Witty added, "On the bright side, financial financial analysts are predicting that interest rates will start to decline in the last quarter of the year." The Board is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year and a name change from Oshawa & District Real Estate Board to Durham Region Real Estate Board was approved by the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Commercial Relations on June 6, 1994. In honour of the Board's new name, a logo contest was held and the winner was Mr. Gopal Dua. The grand prize was a computer donated by CMlJC and cfd Computer Solutions.
