Orono Athlete Contributes To Volleyball Win in Cuba Orono's Daryl Reid was instrumental instrumental in leading the Ontario men's volleyball team to a sweep over Cuba during a recent international exhibition match. The Ontario men's and women's provincial teams went to Cuba as part of their preparation for the National National Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) in Sherbrooke, Quebec. While the teams were there, they had a chance to play against the Cuban Juvenile National teams that are getting ready to participate in the NORCE- CA Championships in Puerto Rico. The Ontario men's team played three matches against Cuba, winning winning all three. In the first match, won 3-2 by Ontario, Reid led all attackers with 12 kills and eight digs. Ontario won by scores of 7-15,15-8,15-7,11-15, 15-11. In the second match, played a day later, Ontario swept Cuba in three straight games by scores of 15-10, 15-12, 16-14. Reid had five digs in the match. In the final match, Ontario again won in three straight games by scores of 15-0, 15-9, 15-12. Reid finished the game with 2.74 passes. The women's team played two matches against the Cubans, splitting splitting the result.
