During Michelin Enduro's twin 250km races, the GM Goodwrench Formula finished fourth and second respectively. The MacDonald-Cadieux racing team has been struggling this year with their new GM Goodwrench sponsored Pontiac Formula. Coming back after two front end collisions with concrete walls, the team finally was running up front where they had wanted to be all year. Rolf von Engelbrechten joined the GM Goodwrench team, bringing a lot of driving experience. Plus, he promised co-driver Terry MacDonald-Cadieux MacDonald-Cadieux a podium finish in '94. This weekend his promise came true, and almost twice. Not much testing was done during during Friday's test day as the team dodged the torrential downpours. What little testing they did really paid off during Saturday's and Sunday's Sunday's race. For the first 250km race, the GM Goodwrench team started sixth on the grid. It wasn't long before Von Engelbrechten made his way to second second place. The Porsche and BMW day ended ended early due to mechanical difficulties, difficulties, leaving the Camaras, Mustangs and Pontiacs to battle it out. At the one hour mark, cars started started the routine pit stops for fuel, tire and driver changes. The MacDonald-Cadieux MacDonald-Cadieux team pitted almost last, making every drop of fuel count. Just as the driver change was completed, completed, a full course yellow took place, removing a touring car from the wall. MacDonald-Cadieux left pit lane in second place. The pace car picked up the wrong car, then realized it and let the field go around, thus threatening MacDonald-Cadieux's good lead for second. The gap closed up. MacDonald-Cadieux tried to hold off the charging Mustang of Scott Maxwell, but just couldn't. He went on to win. With two laps to go, the team was in fourth place and closing quickly on third. ' 'If I had one or two more laps, I could have caught and passed the Camara of Wilden/Wilkins, but there just wasn't enough time," commented MacDonald-Cadieux, who finished fourth. Sunday's qualifying placed the GM Goodwrench team outside the pole. Rolf von Engelbrechten was flying this day and would start the race, with MacDonald-Cadieux finishing. finishing. Soon, Rolf found himself in the lead as the Porsche had problems. It was a good race between the BMW and the Pontiac, but the BMW took it. At the halfway mark, teams took on tires, fuel, and new drivers. As the MacDonald-Cadieux team pitted, pitted, they were still in second place with a solid gap before third. MacDonald-Cadieux MacDonald-Cadieux was told to keep a steady pace and we would be in contention contention for a podium finish. As the ending laps unfolded, the Mustang again took a position, but then had to pit for more fuel. Wil- den's Camara was closing fast, but not fast enough. As the checkered flag fell, MacDonald-Cadieux was in second, and achieved her first podium podium finish. As the celebrations on the podium podium occurred, everyone went for the bottles of champagne, leaving MacDonald-Cadieux MacDonald-Cadieux without a bottle. She definitely got the most champagne champagne poured on her. But it was well worth it. Next stop on the Michelin Enduro Enduro scries is Trois Rivers, August 3- 4.
