Section Two The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, August 10,1994 5 Clubs and Organizations Toastmasters Club Enjoys Campfire Stories and Dinner It was a nice change from the usual usual routine, as Bowmanville Toastmasters Toastmasters held their annual potluck supper at the beautiful home of Irene Kon- zelmann. Bread was broken and tales were told under the sunny summer sky. One of the most memorable tales came from TM Sher Leetooze, as she told her "round the campfire" rendition rendition of her experience with the Win- digo while camping one summer. (The Windigo is a legend of Indian folklore, and it is believed that if you see the Windigo, you'll be turned to stone.) Bear stories were popular - TM Brenda Russell told an Arctic tale of a friend on "polar bear watch" who ended up being watched by the bear and nearly lost his life. Many other stories were exchanged exchanged and a good time was had by all. Many thanks to Irene for her hospitality, hospitality, to TM George Glasbergen who co-ordinated the event, and to all of those who attended. This meeting provided excellent fodder for the upcoming Humorous Contest, to be held at the end of September. September. Watch this column for more details, and plan to attend. You'll hear some excellent speakers, make some new acquaintances, and best of all - it's free!! What is Toastmasters and why should I join? We opened our meeting in front of Ulrich's Ulrich's new building, then proceeded inside where our guide lead us to a room where our leader Dr. Robert Green was preparing to cut open some intestines and a stomach of a cow. Cows only have one stomach which is divided into four compartments. compartments. At first we got to feel the intestines intestines and the stomach of a cow and pig. Then Robert began to cut open the stomach and intestines of the cow. It smelled so awful we didn't want to open our mouths to ask questions. questions. After we had a tour of the building and were shown the refrigerator refrigerator where meat is stored and saw the pig and cow that the intestines came from. The pig had something wrong with its liver because it was missing. We were also shown where the animals are butchered. With the tour completed we went outside to finish our meeting. s - . It can be caused by . a lower concentration of estrogen, so it is common in menopausal women. Other contributing factors include stress, exercise, and certain medications like antihistanVines and antidepressants. A five-in-one vaccine has been approved in Canada. The new vaccine combines immunizations against diptheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio and Haemophilus influenzae (Hib). The polio component replaces the oral polio vaccine. Not all provinces have converted to this new combination. Startling statistic department: Japanese citizens consume an average of 28 liters of alcohol each year. Niacin is often recommended as a cholesterol-lowering drug. It is effective for this purpose but should not be used without your doctor's consent. Niacin can aggravate stomach ulcers and increase blood sugar. So it's not good for everyone. It's kind of nice dealing with people you know.
