Section Two The Canadian Statesman, Bowman ville, Wednesday, August 10,1994 13 Durham East 4H Dairy Club Holds August Meeting The sixth meeting of the Durham East Dairy Club was held on August 3, 1994 at the Benschop's farm north of Bowmanville. The meeting started with an interesting interesting talk by Dr. J. Blackburn on body conditions in dairy cows to both the seniors and juniors. The Juniors with worried looks on their faces then went to write the test on what we should have learned in this club. Following the test Mr. Henderson Henderson gave us the answers so that we would have an idea on how we had done. We then had the roll call and the reading of the minutes of the last meeting by Dave Luckhardt. Tom Benschop showed us his new dairy operation. It was very interesting interesting to tour such a well equipped, clean and well ventilated dairy bam. The seniors joined us again and Tom told us about his cow comfort mats. These cows sure have all the best! We adjourned the meeting and enjoyed enjoyed a wonderful snack of homemade homemade squares and pop that was served by Mrs. Benschop. Thank-you very much to the Benschop family for hosting such an interesting meeting. Aaron Bowman press reporter Go for the Gold 4H Competition Held in Blackstock The annual "GO FOR THE GOLD" Competition was held on August 4, 1994 at Blackstock United Church at 7:00 p.m. There were 10 teams participating and they included Sheep #1, Sheep #2, Field crops, Junior Dairy, Senior Dairy, Horse, Walk on the Wild Side, Beef, Vet and Swine. The team of four is chosen from the members of each club. There must be a novice, junior, senior, and one other to make up a team. The questions are made up from the projects projects that are currently running in 1994. It is not necessary to have the clubs running currently in your county so it can make it difficult to answer questions but this makes it a challenge to learn more. The projects that the contestants were questioned on this year were 1. Safety - Agricultural Hazards 2. All The World's A Stage 3. Beef, Dairy, Horse - Health and Breeding 4. Food - Batter Up 5. Crop - Species and Management Management 6. Farm Machinery - Tractors 7. Goat - Nutrition 8. Horticulture - A Greener House 9. Photography 10. Poultry - Breeding and Marketing Marketing 11. Rabbit - Management and Marketing 12. Basic Sewing 13. Sheep - Nutrition and Marketing Marketing 14. Swine - Nutrition 15.
