Bowmanville, Saturday, August 13,1994 SATURDAY, AUGUST 13TH DERRY DAY PARADE IN ORONO -- The Royal Black Knights (a branch of the Orange Order) will hold their Derry Day Parade in Orono. It takes place this Saturday, with the parade leaving the fairgrounds at 1:45 p.m. The procession will make its way through the village, returning to the fairgrounds at the conclusion of the event. The parade commemorates the relief of the seige of Derry, in Ireland, in 1689. MONSTER BINGO - Prize money totalling $5,500 will be available in a Monster Bingo slated for Saturday, August 13th, at the Bowmanville Recreation Complex; Doors open at 6 p.m., with the bingo commencing at 7 p.m. and concluding at 11 p.m. Proceeds will go to the Alliance House women's shelter. GLADIOLUS SHOW - On Saturday, August 13, the Durham Region Gladiolus. and Dahlia Society presents its annual show in Bowmanville. Doors will open to the public at two p.m. and the exhibit will continue to approximately 4:30 p.m. There is no admission fee, but a donations basket will be available. The show takes place at the Bowmanville Legion Hall. SUNDAY, AUGUST 14TH GIANT FAMILY PICNIC - Plan now to attend a great family outing at the Enniskillen Conservation Area on Sunday, August 14th. It takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is part of the Celebrate Durham '94 festivities. There's fun for the whole family, including food and special activities such as magic, children's games, a book fair, face-painting, a puppet show, music and lots more. Admission is free. MONDAY, AUGUST 15TH FLUTE CHOIR PERFORMS IN BOWMANVILLE - The Clarington Flute Choir will present a concert on August 15th in the Court Room above the Bowmanville Fire Station. The program begins at eight p.m. It will include classical music, show tunes and ragtime selections. The Clarington Flute Choir, under the direction of Lynda Shewchuk, consists of nine flute students in senior grades. Admission is free. Receipts available. © ONTARIO FINALS RODEO ~ Ontario's top cowboys and cowgirls, will be riding into Orono in September for the Ontario Rodeo Association 1994 Finals. The rodeo will be at the Orono fairgrounds September 23,24 and 25. It includes steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, calf roping, team roping, and bull riding. This event is sponsored by the Kinsmen Club of Bowmanville and by the Bowmanville Rotary Club. Library will hold a special Certificate Day to conclude its "Go Wild at the Library" Summer Reading Club. Participants can pick up their certificates and join in the activities going on at all three branches from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on August 17. THURSDAY, AUGUST 18TH CONCERT PIANIST GIVES BENEFIT PERFORMANCE - Pianist Christine Alison Wallner will perform on Thursday, August 18th, at the Bowmanville High School Auditorium. The program, which begins at 7:30 p.m. will include Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin. The concert is presented by the Bowmanville Lions Club, with proceeds from the evening going to the Lions "Sight First" program, an international project geared towards eliminating blindness . Tickets are $10 each. MIDNIGHT MADNESS Another of the Bowmanville Business Improvement Area's ever-popular Midnight Madness sales is coming your way. On Thursday, August 18th, from noon to midnight, the stores in the downtown will be open to feature special merchandise or sale items. And, from seven p.m. to nine p.m., there will be a lawnchair concert in the Town Square, featuring the Clarington Concert Band. IN THE COMING WEEKS... COUNTDOWN TO ORONO FAIR - The Orono Fair is less than a month away. This year's edition of the Durham Central Agricultural Society fair will be held from September 8 to 11. It features the Imperial Hell Drivers, a demolition derby, fiddlers' contests, livestock shows, harness racing, antique cars, a pet show, talent contest, midway, commercial exhibitions, student art display and lots more.
