S The Clarington Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, August 13,1994 It was a beautiful moonlit night, the temperature was perfect, and the drivers ready for action. It was a wild night of racing on August 6 at Mosport International Speedway. In Thundercar division, it was very exciting as there were four different different heat winners this week. Don Andrews of Port Hope came from eighth position to grab heat number one. Starting from the outside outside pole, Rob Fulton of Oshawa took heat number two, while Dwayne Glasbergen of Janetville put die pedal to the metal and beat Dan Robinson of Scarborough and Doug Todgham of Oshawa. Vic Mannette of Mississauga was back in the winners circle to claim victory victory in heat number four. matics. Joe Mallette of Hampton captured the win starting from the second row. Heat four was won by Jim Rossiter of Bowmanville. The feature had two cautions throughout and was won by Rossiter. Rossiter. He was leading the pack at the end of the race to capture his third feature in four weeks, thus tightening tightening the points battle. Warbutton was second, while Glen Flicker of Pickering was third. Mallette and Rick Boucher of Oshawa rounded out the top five. The Late Model Sportsman heats saw two first time winners here at the speedway. Steve Laking of Mor- riston took heat one, while Dave Bousefield took heat three. Alex Hamilton of Priceville took heat two, and although he started at the back of the pack, also won heat four. With only one caution flag throughout, the feature was a very exciting race as Hamilton picked his way through the field to take the early lead, only to see it disappear when his engine misfired. Eventually, Eventually, he had to pit. This left tire door open for Gary Mead of Orillia to take the lead and coast home to victory. Merv Walt of Shanty Bay drove a good race and placed second, while Randy Gray of Brampton took third. Gray was later disqualified for being under weight. This moved Steve Laking in to third, Bill Nort- ham into fourth, and Ed Beatty closed out the top five. In the Mosport Late Models, the cars were flying and so were the tempers. Rino Montanari of Uxbridge Uxbridge grabbed the victory in heat number one, while Dwight Brown of Willowdale was victorious in heat number two. The feature had 14 cars taking the green flag with wild nose-to-tail racing throughout the field. An accident accident brought the cars to the line, with Robinson and Montanari on the front row. Dwight Brown had the early lead to lap seven, but Joe Gon- calves of Concord moved up to second second after having started twelfth. Quite a bit of dicing and a fast pace had some of the cars slowly dropping off. On lap twenty four, it was Brown, Goncalves, Montanari, and Dave Taylor all nose-to-tail. Goncalves and Montanari tangled together in comer two. Goncalves spun, bringing out a caution. Taylor came on strong and was also involved involved in the spinout. After an altercation among some pit crews and even some fans, the race was re-started. With only one lap to go, Brown, Taylor, Opper- sma, and Robichaud were the only drivers left. On the restart, Brown's car misfired, misfired, leaving Taylor to grab the victory. victory. Terry Robichaud of Whitby passed Brown to take second, while Brown settled for third. Oppersma took fourth, and Rod Sauder rounded rounded out the top five. Fans and pit crews became involved in an altercation during the Late Model race In the feature, three early cautions cautions had the race off to a slow start, but things heated up. Scott Douglas of Uxbridge led the race from start to finish, but the exciting battles were deeper in the field. Todgham, driving an excellent race, finished second, while Glasbergen settled for third, keeping the points chase very close. Using an old engine, Mannette Mannette finished fourth, while Jack Cross of Bloomfield rounded out the top five. In Street Stock division, there was some incredibly fierce action in the first heat. With Andy Warbutton and Duke Paul of Oshawa battling hard for the lead, Warbutton clipped his tires coming out of comer four, spun in front of Royce Jones, and was pushed sideways halfway down the front straightaway. This was only part of the excitement. Warbutton, now at the back of the pack, made an incredible charge to the front and took home the victory victory to a cheering audience. Not only this, but Warbutton came back later in tiie evening and won the third heat as well.
