Giant Sundae Measures 400 Feet Long This 400-foot ice cream sundae was enjoyed by youngsters at the Liberty Pentecostal church on Friday morning, August 12. The snack included 160 litres of ice cream, 50 pounds of bananas and 10 litres of chocolate sauce. It fed close to 600 children attending the church's Vacation Bible School. The bible school ran from Tuesday, August 9 to Sunday, August 14 and included games, songs, crafts, Bible stories, stories, and other teachings emphasizing the spiritual dimensions of life. There were about 140 volunteers in charge of the Vacation Bible School, including Senior Pastor Richard Hilsden and all of the church's pastoral staff. Happenings in Elizabethville by Edna Thickson Another excellent crowd attended attended the Sunday church service at John Wright's home. Rev. Sedgwick was home from holidays and was our speaker. Lloyd Kellogg opened the service and welcomed all the visitors. He also announced the upcoming upcoming events, including a com roast at the Pines on Aug. 12th. The service on Aug. 21 will be at Leon Thompson's and on the 28th at Joe Kowall's at Osaca. Rev. Sedgwick Sedgwick took over and spoke about King David meeting Bathsheba; about David's sins and how he had her husband sent to war to be killed, taken from 2 Samuel. He also referred referred to the time when Jesus fed the five thousand people and when he crossed the sea in a boat and spoke from the other side of the sea. We then had a christening. There were supposed to be two, but one little one's father was in the hospital. Lit tle Patricia Marie, daughter of Crag and Colleen Ingram, was baptized. In place of the choir, The Cook's provided the music, with Doug on the guitar and little Hillary Bailey also sang alone. June Smith sang a solo, replacing someone who had a sore throat. Rev. Sedgwick continued continued with more about David and his sins. Everyone enjoyed a lunch of fruit bread and coffee or cold drinks. Ken and Elizabeth Gibbs left this week for a holiday in their cottage cottage at Parry Sound. Bertha and Ken Trew were out driving on Sunday and called at Jim Walker's, Young's Point, Lakefield. Vivian and Howard Quantrill spent the last part of the week in Toledo, Toledo, Ohio, where Paul lives and plays ball with the Phillies now. Shane and Sophia were with Peacock's. The show at Cavan ended ended for this year. Shane had written it from his book on the life of Will Hunt, called the Great Parmi. Mark and Linda and boys were at Peacock's this week. Clarence and Betty Mercer had Robin's mother call on Sunday. She is visiting with Robin and Philip and girls. Lesley Westheuiscr spent the week-end in Montreal visiting some of her school friends. I had tea Sunday with Wcsthcuis- cr's. Nancy left on Sunday to return to her nursing job at Iqualuit, while John and the three children will be leaving on Wednesday. Cheyanne had a week at Girl Guide camp in Ottawa. They had a cottage back north for two weeks so have had a good holiday for this year. We must all enjoy the next few weeks before we begin complaining about cold spells. Recently Nancy Bryans took three grandchildren to their cottage at Kelly's Kelly's Bay on Sturgeon Lake. Enjoying the overnight trip were Nathan Alpe and Christina and Leanna Bryans. At the United Church tiré regular schedule of services will begin next Sunday with morning worship at 10:00 a.m. Guest speaker next Sunday will be Michelle Hofman. Decoration service will be held at the Nestleton Cemetery also next Sunday, August 21. Sharon Goulding was surprised when about 60 friends and relatives arrived at her home Sunday afternoon for a party to celebrate her birthday. She received a variety of gifts on this occasion. Her daughter Heather with the help of several relatives and friends organized this celebration. Happy birthday Sharon. Last weekend Nancy Bryans stayed overnight at Bobcaygeon with her sister Virgy Fairey Piper who was recently married to Lany Piper of Bowmanville. Larry is presently working at G.M. Technical Centre in Michigan and periodically travels a month at a time to Japan. Virgy and Larry are presently living in Rochester Hills north of Detroit for three years at least. Ruby VanCamp and Doreen Van- Camp enjoyed a motor trip to Prince Edward Island and other points in the Maritimes. Joyce Kelly attended a Graham Family Reunion held at Fort Steele, British Columbia last week. There she met many cousins, descendants of Robert Graham who was her grandfather's grandfather's brother. Before travelling to Fort Steele she visited Donna and Gary Smith at Olds, Alberta and met Cheryl Graham of Ponoka, Alberta. Travelling with her was Noretta Henderson, Henderson, a cousin from St. Mary's. The annual VanCamp picnic was held at Blackstock United Church on Sunday. Approximately 60 members of the clan gathered for a delicious pot luck buffet dinner. The fine schedule of games and activities was organized by David and Jeffrey Kemp and Jim and Margaret Ann VanCamp. Doreen VanCamp acted as president in Aileen VanCamp's absence. Much visiting was enjoyed during the afternoon. The day concluded with a delicious supper. supper. Quite a number from this area visited visited the funeral parlours to pay respects respects for the late Duke Brunt last weekend. Duke and his wife Sandra curled in the Blackstock Curling Club for the past several years. Sandra teaches at Grandview School, Man- vers. Sympathy is extended to Sandra and her family. Jamie Attfield of Vancouver spent eleven days visiting relatives in the area. He accompanied his aunt Mrs. Susan Saywell when she returned from a holiday to the West coast. Jamie Jamie stayed with his grandfather Merrill Merrill and Jean VanCamp. The Marlow Reunion on Sunday was a wonderful success with over two hundred members of the Marlow families attending. The event began with a tour of local farms and cemeteries cemeteries which had connections with the family history. Group and family pictures pictures were taken. Harvey Graham brought greetings from Scugog Township. Township. A bountifiil lunch was enjoyed after which prizes were given for various various categories. Clara Leask gave a history of John Marlow and Sophia Hagerman going back to 1634. Many charts, pictures and other items of interest interest were posted for everyone to enjoy. enjoy.
