i The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, Wednesday, August 17,1994 7 Mason Windows Under-9 Soccer Team Wins A' Title The Darlington Tier I under-9 soccer team are fresh off an 'A' Championship victory at the Cobourg Invitational Tournament that was held the weekend of August 6. Darlington defeated Belleville, Cobourg Cobourg and Port Hope in elimination play, then needed double overtime to get past Ajax 4-2. Team members members include, front row, (1-r), Daniel Michael, Kevin Bellerose, Ryan Hibbard, Ryan Fowler, Justin Andrews, Andrews, Richard Morel. The Darlington Tier I under-9 soccer team won the 'A' Championship Championship at the Cobourg Invitational Tournament on the weekend of August August 6. The team defeated Belleville, Cobourg Cobourg and Port Hope during elimination elimination play to win its pool. The team then met Ajax for an exciting final. Ajax led the game 2-1, but with less than two minutes remaining, Bradley Bakker scored the tieing goal. Ryan Hibbard played a strong game in goal, stopping several Ajax shots late in the game when Darlington Darlington was pressing for the tieing goal. Neither team scored during the first overtime period. Early in the second overtime period, period, Bradley Bakker broke down the left side and sent a hard shot in the comer of the goal for a 3-2 lead. Gemini Gymnastics Club Expands to Offer Quality Recreational Programs Baker Construction Faces North York In Next Round of CSL Cup Play Baker Construction of the DYSL has advanced to the next round in CSL Cup play. The CSL Cup is a tournament that runs year long within within the league. The next Cup game is scheduled for August 23 at Solina versus North York. A win would put Darlington Darlington in the Cup finals in September. September. In league play, Baker Construction Construction is still in first place in the Central Central Soccer League heading into the last week of the regular season. On August 9, Darlington was visited visited by Pickering at the Solina pitch. The first half ended in a 1-0 lead for Darlington, due mostly to good goalkeeping and defence on the part of a determined Pickering team. Darlington came out fired up in the second half and scored three more times to win the game 4-0. The win leaves Darlington alone in first with Whitby only a single point behind. Darlington played their final regular regular season game on August 16 against Etobicoke. Over the August long weekend, Darling participated in the Kitchener Kitchener International Soccer Tournament and played well, but lost out to a couple of strong teams. Darlington lost its first match, 2- 1, in a game with Burlington that could have gone either way. This loss made it difficult for Darlington to advance from its group. They would have to play well and hope another team could give Burlington a loss as well. The next opponent was Dixie, who defeated Darlington 3-2. With any hopes of advancing gone, Darlington relaxed and crushed a team from Guelph 8-1, then headed back to the hotels and water parks for fun and campfires. Darlington is scheduled to play one more tournament this year in Whitby on August 20-21. Thanks to all the parents and fans for all your continued support.
