10 The Clarington Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, September 3,1994 Scenes from the Second Annual Ganaraska Countryside Adventure Anne Negri, a farrier who lives in Orono and works at Greenwood Raceway, spent six hours on Sunday making a variety of horseshoes for interested watchers. Using a portable propane-fired forge, Negri wowed young and old as she fashioned horseshoes from 12-inch pieces of metal. Behind Negri is the blacksmith's shop set up at the Clarke Museum and Archives. Visitors to the Helpards' hobby farm over the weekend enjoyed making the acquaintance of quarter horses, goats, pigs, chickens and swans. The retired apple farmer welcomed tourists to his orchard last weekend as part of the Great Ganaraska Countryside Adventure. October 1 and 2, 1994 mark the weekend of the 10th Kawartha Autumn Autumn Studio Tour. Studios from Mill- brook to Fowler's Comers, from Lakefield to Havelock, and within Peterborough, will be open free of charge to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. This Tour is unique because of the involvement of The Art Gallery of Peterborough." The AGP's Programme/education Programme/education coordinator helps the many artists involved with organization organization and promotion of the Tom- through publication of a fully- illustrated brochure. The AGP also handles the selection of artists and ensures a balance between media represented represented and geographic locations covered in the Peterborough County area. From its inception in 1985, the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour has been organized by the Art Gallery of Peterborough with the help of participating participating artists. From the perspective of the AGP, the main purpose of the tour is educational, because it enables visitors to encounter artists in their' work spaces in Peterborough and the Kawarthas. The tom also attracts many visitors from other parts of Ontario to the region. • Visiting the Tour is FREE OF CHARGE. • Visitors provide their own transportation transportation and begin and finish where they like. • Studio Tours in the fall are key tourist attractions. • The Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour is also a key annual community event for the AGP. Participating studios have always represented a wide variety of media: for instance, glass, leather, textile, ceramics, ceramics, jewellery, painting, printmak ing, sculpture, book illustration and computer/video installation have been featured in the past.
